The 'Jem' Movie Will Have 'a Lot of Pink' (and a Possible Sequel), Says Star Aubrey Peeples

The first teaser image for the upcoming adaptation of "Jem and the Holograms" seemed to promise that the live action flick would keep the spirit of the original animated series intact, and now star Aubrey Peeples has confirmed that that will indeed be the case.



In an interview with E! News, Peeples said that there was plenty for fans to be excited about.



"I'm not allowed to say too much about what the looks are, but I can guarantee you that there's going to be a lot of pink," Peeples said. "Nobody will be disappointed with the hair, makeup, and the fashion."



As for what that fashion entails, the actress said that the outfits rocked by Jem and her band, the Holograms, would delight moviegoers.



"We had a lot of different performance looks, each one is truly outrageous," Peeples said, channeling one of the series's iconic phrases. "I look at pictures and I can't believe that's me. It's so weird."



While the 20-year-old "Nashville" star admitted that she had never seen the original 1980s series, she said she immediately connected with the story -- and envisions another installment of "Jem" hitting theaters sometime soon.



"They're badass. They're female rock stars in the '80s fighting crime. What could be any better?" Peeples told E! News. " ... We'll have to wait and see, but I think there will be lots of Jem to come."



No release date for "Jem and the Holograms" yet. Stay tuned.

The 'Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda' Teaser Promises a Battle of Ridiculous Proportions (VIDEO)

While "Sharknado 2: The Second One" has been getting all the attention ahead of its debut later this month, Syfy is proving that its penchant for ridiculous creature features knows no bounds with a new trailer for "Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda."



This is actually the second film in the "Sharktopus" saga, this first one starring Eric Roberts and featuring a group of scientists that engineer a half shark, half octopus for use by the U.S. military. Naturally, the genetically modified beast becomes sentient and breaks free from its captors, leading to lots of bloody shots of humans getting gobbled before Sharktopus is eventually destroyed.



But apparently, the creature wasn't entirely wiped out -- or perhaps he had a brother? -- because he's back for more destruction, this time battling the Pteracuda, no doubt a mash-up of a pterosaur and barracuda. Just where scientists got a pterosaur from remains unclear (maybe they called up the folks from "Jurassic Park"?), but regardless of its origins, like the Sharktopus before it, the hybrid monster looks pretty badass.



As for who will win in a fight, the small bit of footage we see of the pair shows Pteracuda getting some good shots in on Sharktopus. Then again, the latter creature came back from the dead, so don't count him out just yet.



"Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda" debuts on Syfy on August 2.

The 'St. Vincent' Trailer Showcases the Bill Murray We All Know and Love

Between popping up at bachelor parties and crashing engagement photo sessions, Bill Murray found time to shoot a new movie, "St. Vincent," the trailer for which has made its debut.



Murray stars as the titular man whose cranky, hard drinking, strip club-going lifestyle is turned upside down by the arrival of a new neighbor and single mother (Melissa McCarthy) and her 12-year-old son, Oliver (newcomer Jaeden Lieberher). For reasons Vincent himself probably doesn't even understand, he volunteers to watch Oliver after school, and thus begins an unlikely friendship that sees Vincent taking the kid on trips to the racetrack, and teaching him how to fight after he's beaten up by some bullies.



"I'm small, in case you haven't noticed," Oliver complains to Vincent about his penchant for attracting tough guys.



"Yeah, so was Hitler," Vincent replies.



While the cute kid meets gruff old guy trope has been played to death by Hollywood, we like the looks of what "St. Vincent" has to offer. Lieberher especially seems promising in the role, and it's always delightful to see Murray and McCarthy on the big screen. Add in Chris O'Dowd as a Catholic school priest and teacher and a surprise Naomi Watts doing an impressive eastern European accent, and you've got all the makings for a fun flick.



"St. Vincent," written and directed by first-timer Theodore Melfi, hits theaters on October 24.

Visiting the 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Set Reduces Adult Man to Tears

In a move that's sure to make him the envy of fanboys and -girls everywhere, Kevin Smith has visited the set of "Star Wars: Episode VII," and has deemed the flick awesome.



Smith, who's also a pretty big "Star Wars" fanboy himself, revealed his visit on Instagram with a tear-streaked selfie, noting that while he signed a non-disclosure agreement to prevent spoilers, what he could say was that the flick looked like it would be great -- and the joyful experience made him cry like a baby.





"The Force is WITH this movie," Smith wrote on Instagram. "Holy Sith..."



That's high praise from the writer-director, who's an avid sci-fi and superhero fan and known for speaking his mind about all manner of pop culture. (Fans of Smith's SModcast network of podcasts are no doubt familiar with his affinity for smack talking and enthusiastic gushing in equal measure.)



Whether every "Star Wars" fan will have the same reaction as Smith remains to be seen, but his endorsement certainly makes us cautiously optimistic that we'll be pleased when "Episode VII" finally hits theaters.



"Star Wars: Episode VII" is due out on December 18, 2015.

Pixar Was Almost Ruined Before It Ever Made a Movie

Can you imagine a moviegoing world without the films from Pixar? No "Toy Story," no "Monsters, Inc.," no "Finding Nemo," no "Cars," no "Up"? The upcoming, fantastic-looking "Inside Out" never happening? According to a new book by Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull, that unthinkable scenario was almost a reality.



In his management book "Creativity, Inc.," Catmull revealed that back in 1985, the animation start-up was almost purchased by General Motors, which wanted to buy the company to help develop and design new automobiles. At the time, Pixar wasn't known for its animation -- "Toy Story," the world's first feature-length animated movie, was still 10 years off -- but more for its technology as the computer division of Lucasfilm.



GM had planned to partner with electronics giant Philips to co-purchase Pixar for $15 million, plus an additional $15 million in seed money. Per AutoBlog.com:

"General Motors was intrigued because we were leading the way in the modeling of objects, which they felt could be used in car design," says Catmull. Philips was interested in the technology behind the Pixar Image Computer, which could read huge amounts of data from imaging machines like CT scanners or MRIs. Those two pieces of technology made Pixar a sweet acquisition target...

Catmull wrote in his book that Pixar, which was in danger of shuttering altogether at the time, was eager for the deal to go through, but for whatever reason, it didn't happen. Luckily for the future animation powerhouse, Apple founder Steve Jobs ended up "swooping in" to save the company, and the rest is cinematic history.



Sounds like fodder for a movie. Luckily, Pixar is still with us to make that happen someday.
