'Tron 3' Is Dead: Did 'Tomorrowland' Kill It, and Can Fans Save It?

Disneyland may be The Happiest Place on Earth but "Tron 3" is not getting a happy ending. It's not even getting a happy beginning, since it was killed before it got to live. But what destroyed, or at least tabled, "Tron 3" -- a crowded Disney movie slate; lack of real interest in another "Tron" movie, despite early buzz (and an angry fan petition, see below); or the disappointing box office for Disney's "Tomorrowland"?

Back in April, The Hollywood Reporter said the sequel to "Tron: Legacy" was a go, with Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund scheduled to pick up their roles. However, THR returned late on Friday, May 29 with a never-mind report, saying Disney had chosen not to move forward with the sequel. It was never official to begin with, but THR said prep had started on the third film, with production possibly beginning this fall in Vancouver with Joseph Kosinski returning to direct.

But forget all that. After the "Tron 3" is dead news broke, Variety quoted a Disney executive, who put the blame on a crowded movie schedule:

We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time. Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, 'Where does it go?' And it's a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it."

Not everyone is convinced this is just about a crowded movie slate. THR noted that, while Disney has had success with live-action versions of fairy tales like "Cinderella" and "Maleficent," it stumbled a bit with "Tomorrowland," which cost about $180 million and underperformed with a $33 million U.S. debut. They just put that information out there without blame, but some readers picked up the scent and think there is a connection between those disappointing numbers and Disney not moving forward with another big budget movie. According to Variety, the plan was for "Tron 3" to cost roughly as much as the second, which had a $170 million budget. A source told the site the movie "could resurface at some point but it's not going to get the go button right now."

Several fans are upset at the "Tron 3" news, and a Change.org petition was launched asking Disney to revive the movie. As fan Lucas Lowman wrote:

Tron: Legacy grossed over 400 million dollars and helped more fully realize the world created in the original Tron. It's a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored. Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives."

So far, the petition has more than 12,000 signatures. Do you hope "Tron 3" does arrive eventually, or is this no great loss to you?

'Outlander' Boss Previews More 'Urban' and 'Political' Paris-Set Season 2

Now that the brutal -- but still hopeful and very emotional -- "Outlander" Season 1 finale is in the past, what does the future hold for Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) in Season 2? Executive producer Ronald D. Moore had several rounds of interviews after the May 30 finale, discussing plans for the next adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's novels.

Moore told Deadline they were roughly three weeks into Season 2 at the time, and "the footage looks really good." Here are more Moore quotes to Deadline:

The general plan is probably to try to do a book a season. Some of the books are bigger than others so we've definitely had conversations about, "well, you know, at some point we made need to split a book into two seasons," but right now we're not there yet so the plan is to do Dragonfly In Amber for Season 2.

There will be twists and turns that aren't in the book. The second book is more complex than the first book is. It's a little tougher challenge to adapt it. It takes place in France and it deals with the Jacobite Rebellion. It's much more political, it weaves in and out of actual historical events. There's more complexity, just in terms of how Diana structured the story in Paris, in particular, as Jamie and Claire try to change history. [...] It's an urban setting and you're dealing with aristocracy and the court of Louis XV so it's a whole different thing. It's not going to look anything like Season 1, so you're really kind of prepping and shooting a whole new TV show into the second year. It has a lot of, you know, 'oh my God, what can we do,' those kind of moments to it."


Here's some of what Moore shared with TVLine about what's next for Jamie and Claire:

It's much more about deception, and lies within lies, and the gossips and the surroundings of Paris. And dinner parties, and going to the court of Louis the XV - and if you know those books, there's St. Germain, and there's Master Raymond, and there's more of an occult feeling to a lot of that stuff. [Plus], she's pregnant, and he's got the aftermath of Jack Randall.

In probably every which way you can think of, it's going to be different than Season 1 was, which I think is one of the strengths of the series overall: its continuing evolution.

In a lot of ways, [Parisian society] is more familiar to [Jamie] in certain ways than you would anticipate, because he is a laird in his own life, and he has lived in France, and he speaks the French language. It is a somewhat familiar culture to him. He does know his cousin, Jared, who runs a wine business, and he's been to this place. Claire also speaks French, and she's adapting in a different way, but she still struggles with the roles woman in these times, even in French society.

At the beginning, season 2 is going to look very different from season 1. The characters are going to Paris, which in those days was one of the most populated cities in the world. It's a very urban environment. They'll be in the French court. It's a completely new palette visually. The color schemes are different. Everything about it is different-the chairs, the desks, the lamps, the costumes, and the props. They are definitely going to a different world. There's more politics, because they're caught up in the Jacobite rebellion more. You're dealing with historical figures like Bonny Prince Charlie, who will be in the show. We're dealing with the court of Louis XV. It's just a very different story that Claire and Jamie suddenly get swept up in."


There's no word yet on when Season 2 will debut, but Starz will give it "at least" 13 episodes. Season 1, which had 16 episodes, premiered last August and had a break between two batches of eight episodes -- from August-September to April-May. So we'll have to wait and see how they handle things for the next round. Are you excited for what happens next? 'Suicide Squad' Director Says 'Surprises Are Intact' After Set Leaks

"Suicide Squad" director David Ayer did not turn a blind eye to those leaks on his set, he's just not that concerned about them. He may even have seen them as a welcome early PR boost for the 2016 Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto film, especially since (he says) the big stuff is still under wraps.

Back on May 26, Ayer tweeted about heading to the streets to film some stunt scenes: Toronto thanked him back by visiting the "Suicide Squad" set, taking tons of photos and videos, and floating them online. You may recall seeing the Joker, Harley Quinn photo, or the Batmobile chasing the Jokermobile around Toronto, or Batman crouching on the roof of the Joker's car. Ayer never posted anything while they leaks came out, but on May 31 he updated with this tweet:
So he hopes you liked that little peek behind the curtain because there will be no more -- unless he shares official updates, which he may do again. He was the one to share the first cast photo and look at the Joker, and he'll probably do more stuff like that in the interim before the movie comes out on August 5, 2016.

Hayley Atwell's Awesome 'Captain America: Civil War' Set Photos Are Pretty Revealing

"Agent Carter" actress Hayley Atwell isn't on Marvel's long list of stars for "Captain America: Civil War," but that didn't stop her from heading to the set and sharing some great photos with her former co-star Chris Evans, plus Anthony Mackie and members of the crew. Her photos don't reveal plot details, but they do reveal what's in Captain America's fridge and what he plays on the set during breaks. Check 'em out:
Haha! She should be the official Marvel set photographer. Hayley's Peggy Carter will be back for another season of "Agent Carter" and she's also listed for "Ant-Man." "Captain America: Civil War" will be released May 6, 2016.

Watch Tracy Morgan's Emotional First Interview After Car Accident

Tracy Morgan just had his first live interview since the June 2014 crash that seriously injured the "30 Rock" alum and killed his friend James "Jimmy Mack" McNair. A Wal-Mart truck slammed the limo bus carrying Tracy and others returning from a comedy show in Delaware. Tracy's lawsuit against Wal-Mart was settled out of court at the end of May, and Tracy and his lawyer were on NBC's TODAY Show Monday, June 1, and spent about seven minutes discussing Tracy's physical and emotional state and what little he remembers of the accident itself.

After reviewing what happened with the crash, Matt Lauer first asked Tracy how he felt. "I'm -- I can't believe I'm here," Tracy said. "I can't believe I'm in front of you. I can't believe I'm just seeing the tragedy happen, it kind of -- it touches me." Tracy said he's "been down" in the past year, but his family -- including his soon-to-be-wife Megan and "30 Rock" co-star Tina Fey -- have helped keep his spirits up. "The case is settled but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mack," Tracy said, tearing up. "He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy. He was a loving man, he was a warm man, he was a good man. It just hurts me to see that he's gone. That's it."

Matt asked Tracy to take him back to June of last year to that accident, but Tracy said, "I don't remember the accident," he just remembers coming to and having his family there. He didn't learn that Jimmy had died until he came out of the coma and his family said they put his friend to rest. He watched the accident and Jimmy's funeral on YouTube. "I lost it for about a week." He felt compelled to watch that and pay his respects.

Tracy said he still has his good days and his bad days, when he forgets things and has headaches and nose bleeds. He's just grateful that his family didn't travel with him for that accident. "I look at that accident -- my daughter was 10 months old. She wouldn't have made it, and Megan wouldn't have made it. I don't know, man, that's really the thing that tears me up." He said bones heal, but the loss of his friend will never heal. He's grateful to Wal-Mart for taking "full responsibility" for what happened. His goal is to heal 100 percent and when that happens he'll return to comedy.
