Netflix Falls in Love With Damien Chazelle's Paris-Set Musical Series 'The Eddy'

Damien Chazelle is going from "La La Land" to the City of Lights by bringing music to Netflix.

The streaming service has picked up the Oscar winner's eight-episode musical drama "The Eddy." Set in modern-day Paris, the show takes place in a club and follows its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them. Characters will speak in English, French, and Arabic.

Chazelle is executive producing the series and will also direct two episodes. "Six Feet Under" vet Alan Poul will executive produce with him. The original music will be penned by six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, who has worked with Alanis Morisette and Michael Jackson.

Chazelle is keeping busy after the Oscars success of "La La Land." Aside from "The Eddy," he is also directing a biopic movie about Neil Armstrong titled "First Man," which reunites him with Ryan Gosling.

Richard Anderson, 'Six Million Dollar Man' Actor, Dead at 91

Richard Anderson, a veteran actor best known for playing Oscar Goldman on "The Six Million Dollar Man" and spinoff "Bionic Woman," died yesterday at the age of 91.

Anderson (seen above on the left, with Lee Majors on the right) made a career out of playing stern authority figures, from the head of a secret government ops agency on the aforementioned shows to a lieutenant on "Perry Mason."

He got his start in Stanley Kubrick's 1957 World War I drama "Paths of Glory" as a prosecutor and went on to play a colonel in "Seven Days in May" (1964), Joanne Woodward's love interest in "The Long, Hot Summer" (1958), and the titular character's best pal in the TV show "Zorro."

Anderson's many credits include "The Untouchables," "I Spy," "The Fugitive," "Columbo," "The Love Boat," and "Dynasty." His final film role was in 2015's "The Blood Trail."

Anderson is survived by three daughters.

'Titans' TV Series Casts Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson

A new series about Dick Grayson (aka Robin the Boy Wonder) is on its way with Brenton Thwaites ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales") snagging the lead role.

Written by Akiva Goldsman, DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti, "Titans" is about yet another group of budding superheroes-to-be, including Bruce Wayne's ward and sidekick. He'll be joined by Starfire (Anna Diop) and Raven (Teagan Croft).

"Titans," which sounds like a live-action version of Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans," will premiere in 2018 as part of a new DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service. Which sounds like you might have to subscribe to see it.

"Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn't easy to find him but we have," Johns told Deadline. "Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman's former protege and the Titans' future leader. We're extremely lucky he's chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character."

Thwaits, who hails from Australia's, other films include "The Giver," "Gods of Egypt," and "Maleficent." This will be his first TV series. He'll next be seen in the supernatural thriller "Ghosts of War."

Comedian Shelley Berman of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Dies at 92

Comedian Shelley Berman, who received an Emmy nomination in 2008 for his role as Larry David's father on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has died at age 92.

Deadline reports that Berman died early this morning of complications from Alzheimer's at his home in Bell Canyon, CA. His wife of 70 years, Sarah, was by his side.

From 2002 to 2009, Berman appeared as Larry David's father Nat on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," a role that allowed him to do some of his famous improv.

His other memorable roles include Adam Sandler's father in "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and the semi-senile Judge Robert Sanders on "Boston Legal." He also guest-starred on "The Twilight Zone," "The King of Queens," and "Pushing Daisies," and appeared in the films "The Holiday" and "Meet the Fockers."

Berman got his start in the '50s, where he was known as the "sit down" comic because he usually performed while seated on a stool. He's being remembered as a comedy pioneer who paved the way for comics Bob Newhart, Woody Allen, and Jerry Seinfeld.

His 1959 live record "Inside Shelley Berman," was the first comedy album be certified gold and was the first non-musical recording to win a Grammy Award, according to Variety.

Berman retired in 2014 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. A private service and a public memorial are being planned.

What a lovely day! Funko just announced its upcoming line of "Mad Max: Fury Road" Pops: We've got to have a Funko Furiosa on our desks now!

There's also a mini Mad Max, Nux (the silver-faced War Boy played by Nicholas Hoult), Immortan Joe (the masked villain), and Coma Doof (the awesome blind guy playing the flame-spitting guitar).

There will also be variations: You can get Furiosa with or without her prosthetic arm and Max with or without his metal mask. Some will be available at the Funko Shop, while others will be exclusive to Hot Topic, Target and Wal-Mart.

And you can also collect Rock Candy versions and Mystery Minis. No exact release date yet, but since they'll be available "this winter," we assume that means in time for Christmas.

Leonardo DiCaprio As The Joker? We Have a Lot of Thoughts

With the news that Martin Scorsese is producing the upcoming Joker movie comes speculation that Warner Bros wants to bring in his favorite leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio .

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say Warners want Leo to up the spinoff's prestige factor. (But if they want a prestige film, why hire "The Hangover'"s Todd Phillips to direct?)

Need we point out: This is supposed to be an origin story and DiCaprio turns 43 this year. Heath Ledger, who posthumously won an Oscar for his career-defining portrayal of the villain in "The Dark Knight," was only 28.

DiCaprio's closer in age to the last guy who played the Joker, 45-year-old Jared Leto. Leto, by the way, is said to be very unhappy about the standalone Joker film, even though he's getting his own movie with Harley Quinn.

The plan to hire Leo could work if, according to "sources," he'd be playing a Scorsese-esque crime boss more like Jack Nicholson in "The Departed," which would be an interesting handing-off-of-the-torch from one Joker to another.

That would presumably still leave room for a younger actor to play the Joker in flashbacks.

Reps for Warner Bros, DiCaprio, Leto and Scorsese declined to comment on THR's story.

If we never get a DiCaprio Joker (at this point, we're not holding our breath), we'll always have his deliciously over-the-top turn as villain Calvin Candie in "Django Unchained."

DiCaprio and Scorsese are set to reteam next on the period crime drama "Killers of the Flower Moon."

Season 3 of 'True Detective' Will Be Set in the Ozarks

The Ozarks are so hot right now: Besides Jason Bateman's new Netflix show, we'll be getting plenty of Ozark action with Season 3 of "True Detective."

Season 3, which will star Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, will also feature some formidable talent behind the camera.

According to Variety, the central mystery will be "a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks." It will be set in three different time periods as the mystery unfolds. Ali will play the season's main character, Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto has written the entire season and will also direct some of the episodes. His cowriter on episode 4? None other than "Deadwood" creator David Milch.

Also signing up to direct, Jeremy Saulnier, who gave us the terrific crime dramas "Blue Ruin" and "Green Room."

Pizzolatto said, "I'm tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we're all very excited to tell this story."

We still don't have an air date or a production start date.

Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who both received Emmy nominations for their roles, remain on board as executive producers.
