Angelina Jolie is never that far from our hearts and minds, especially after her sweet moment presenting with Sidney Poitier at the Oscars last Sunday, so we're snapping up every "Maleficent" tidbit thrown our way. Feast your peepers on this photo of Jolie in costume as the queen of mean, alongside her daughter Vivienne as young Princess Aurora.
It's not easy being the big bad of a Disney flick, especially when your makeup and costume scares the pint-sized extras. Jolie told Entertainment Weekly that Vivienne was cast because "the other 3- and 4-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."
The child actors weren't the only ones put off by Jolie's appearance. "When Pax saw me for the first time, he ran away and got upset -- and I thought he was kidding, so I was pretending to chase him until I actually found him crying... I had to take off pieces [of the makeup] in front of him to show him it was all fake and not freak out so much," she added. Once everyone was cool with the funky new look Mom was sporting, Pax and daughter Zahara joined the fun as extras.
Naturally, Angelina Jolie was able to explain to her kids why Maleficent was actually much more complicated than straight-up evil, despite her scary accoutrements. Will everyone else's kids feel the same way, or will the audience be full of aging goths (ahem) eager to see some spooky Disney magic?
We'll find out May 30.
