If you're a diehard fan of "New Girl," you're probably pleased as punch that Damon Wayans Jr. returned to the show to reprise his role of Coach. Wayans Jr. appeared on the pilot of "New Girl" when the future of "Happy Endings" looked shaky, but he left his roomies behind once "Happy Endings" got renewed. Sadly, "Happy Endings" got canned anyway, but the loss is somewhat mitigated by the return of Coach and Wayans Jr. on "New Girl."
Even though Wayans Jr. has been totally rocking out as Coach in every episode, he was still being billed as a guest star. Come on, even Winston's cat Ferguson gets better billing than that! But now it's offish: The handsome comedian will be a regular on the fourth season of "New Girl," which means we can only hope for more amazing Coach insights like, "It really bums me out that I will never know the infinite joy of what it feels like to carry a child inside of me."
Meanwhile, his "Happy Endings" co-star Adam Pally is over on "The Mindy Show" killing it as the fratty gyno Peter Prentice. Pally was made a series regular last September. Casey Wilson, who played the lovelorn Penny on "Happy Endings," is set to star in "Marry Me," a show created by "Happy Endings" showrunner (and Wilson's fiancé) David Caspe. Eliza Coupe, who played Wayan Jr.'s onscreen wife Jane, also has a new show in the works over at USA. So far, there are plenty of happy endings to go around.
Damon Wayans Jr. and "New Girl" co-star Jake Johnson have a movie coming out on August 13 called "Let's Be Cops," which should tide us over until the fall TV season begins.
