Watch the First Full Trailer for the 'Star Wars: Rebels' TV Series (VIDEO)

Yesterday, every nerd you know was probably wearing his or her favorite "Star Wars" T-shirt. That's because May the Fourth has become an unofficial holiday for "Star Wars" fanatics the world over as "Star Wars" Day (May the Fourth be with you? Get it?) And as a way of giving the ever-hungry fans a bone on this special day, especially since the casting announcement for the new "Star Wars" already hit earlier in the week, Disney released the first full trailer for the upcoming "Star Wars: Rebels" animated series, scheduled to hit Disney XD this fall (via Variety). And it looks good.



If you'll recall, the long running "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a computer animated series that took place between the events of "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," was unceremoniously shuttered after Disney acquired Lucasfilm and all related "Star Wars" properties. (The remaining episodes were recently released on Netflix.) Disney wasn't unhappy with the show, but they did want to refocus the animated universe to better reflect where the film franchise was headed, so they ported the team from "The Clone Wars" over to "Star Wars: Rebels" and fashioned a story that takes place between the events of "Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," or, for those of you who no longer live in your parents' basement, the first "Star Wars."



The minute-long trailer introduces us to a host of new characters, including the R2-D2-style droid C1-101P (known as Chopper), Jedi knight Kanan Jarrus (voiced by Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), a young thief in the Han Solo mode; it also shows some familiar design elements (hello, Stormtroopers!) that we've come to know and love from the franchise. And while we're still not totally sold on the design of the show (we prefer the more overtly stylized look of Genndy Tartakovsky's original, micro-sized "Clone Wars" shorts), this one looks like it's going to have plenty of action, suspense, and humor, and should do well to tide us all over until next Christmas, when we all get to unwrap "Star Wars: Episode VII" together.



Look for "Star Wars: Rebels" to debut this fall, and you can watch all of the episodes of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (including those "lost episodes") on Netflix right now .
