Disney's Live-Action 'Aladdin' Casts Another Role Created Just for the Movie

"Aladdin" ain't never had a friend like Prince Anders ... 'cause he was invented for Disney's new live-action movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Billy Magnussen (Rapunzel's Prince in "Into the Woods") has been cast as Prince Anders. They didn't have more details, but Prince Anders is the second original role we know about, after Nasim Pedrad was cast as Mara. Mara was described as a handmaiden and friend to Princess Jasmine, in a comedic supporting role. It's possible Anders is another new comedic role.

'The Magnificent Seven' New York PremiereSo far, the cast includes those two new roles, alongside Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Will Smith in the Genie role that Robin Williams made famous back in the 1992 animated classic.

Guy Ritchie is directing the new "Aladdin," which started filming in August, but doesn't have an official release date yet.

In addition to "Into the Woods," you may know the Tony-nominated Magnussen from "As the World Turns," "The Divide," as Kato Kaelin in "American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson," or as the new Russ in "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
