Johnny Depp Injured in Australia, But 'Pirates' Will Sail On

Sounds like Captain Jack Sparrow had a rough weekend. Johnny Depp is taking a quick break from filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in Australia to have surgery on his hand here in the United States. Depp's injury is reportedly fairly minor, and "Pirates 5" is still on track for release on July 7, 2017.

Depp is still the front and center star of the Disney series, but the production will soldier on without him while he's getting fixed up here in America. With a sprawling cast and blockbuster budget, there's surely no shortage of things the "Pirates" crew can work on while Depp is briefly out of commission. If push comes to shove, perhaps they can hire the guy who tried to sneak on set earlier this week in pirate garb, complete with Sparrow-style hair and his very own parrot.

Production is expected to wrap by the end of the summer. Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, and Golshifteh Farahani join "Pirates" regulars Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally, and Stephen Graham. Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning are directing.
