Rob Lowe Joins 'Code Black' Season 2 as Series Regular

DirecTV Super Saturday Night Co-Hosted By Mark Cuban's AXS TV - PartyRob Lowe's latest show, sitcom "The Grinder," may have been unceremoniously cancelled by Fox earlier this year, but the actor won't be off of TV screens for long: Lowe has just been added to the cast of CBS procedural "Code Black" for its recently-announced second season.

According to Deadline, Lowe will be a series regular in the ensemble, playing a rough around the edges military vet who joins the show's medical staff, and quickly rubs people the wrong way. Here's his character breakdown, per Deadline:

Lowe will play Colonel Ethan Willis, a doctor in the U.S. Military's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine. His aggressive, rule-breaking style is greeted enthusiastically by Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden), but not by all the other doctors.

The actor is fresh off his Golden Globe-nominated turn in "The Grinder," and has a long list of other TV credits to his name, including beloved NBC series "The West Wing" and "Parks and Recreation." He'll make his "Code Black" debut during the show's season two premiere on September 28.
