Natalie Portman: 'As Far as I Know, I'm Done' With Marvel Movies

Natalie Portman and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) have broken up -- or they're at least "on a break" for several years. Portman played Thor's love interest Jane Foster in the first two "Thor" movies, but she is not going to be in the third, "Thor: Ragnarok," and she's not expecting a call for the next "Avengers" movies.

Instead, she's gone in a much more serious direction, talking to the Wall Street Journal about her new movie, "A Tale of Love and Darkness," which she shot in Hebrew with English subtitles. "It obviously makes the film more specific and so less maybe commercially viable," Portman told the WSJ. "It's a small budget film, it's not aspiring to be 'The Avengers.'"

Since she brought up the Avengers, what's up with her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? "As far as I know, I'm done," she said. "I don't know if maybe one day they'll ask for an 'Avengers 7' or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I'm done."

"As far as I know" sounds like she maybe she never got closure with the Marvel brass, they just let her float away and didn't ask her to come back. Or maybe she was just contracted for two movies, so if they want a third they'd better hit the ATM.

Back in May, Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Empire Film there were "many reasons" why Portman's Jane wouldn't be in the third "Thor" movie. "Many of [the reasons] are in the film so you will see that." Which reasons are not in the film? Either way, her movie "A Tale of Love and Darkness" opens in select theaters August 19, and "Thor: Ragnarok" comes out November 3, 2017.
