It has been two weeks since "The Exorcist" Season 1 ended, with no word yet from Fox on a renewal for Season 2. Fans of the horror series -- aka the "Exorcist Congregation" -- have been holding "Twitter possessions" to get #TheExorcist and #RenewTheExorcist trending worldwide. And now -- starting this Friday, Dec. 30 -- fans are launching a new campaign called "Fear the Feathers," sending red feathers to Fox Television headquarters in Los Angeles in a colorful statement to emphasize the cause. (Red feathers have a symbolic connection to the show's demon, Pazuzu.)
Congregation supporter Tim Childress explained the goal in a press release:
"We are all hoping that Fox sees the potential of this show and looks beyond its somewhat low ratings in its first season. This is a definite niche drama that is so well put together by the cast and crew. It is unlike anything currently on television. The casting is spot on, with a compelling and fresh storyline while respecting the original. Combine that with an incredible score and photography and it's a home run in our books that deserves another go."
Campaigning fans hope that sending red feathers to Fox -- and adding #FearTheFeathers to the list of Congregation hashtags -- will be a "harmless yet powerful statement of their loyalty and dedication to the show."
Details on how fans can help the campaign are posted at Renewtheexorcist.tumblr.com.
Show creator Jeremy Slater told Deadline he knows where he wants to take the story and characters in Season 2, but it remains to be seen if Fox wants the same.
