Blue is the new red at the 89th annual Academy Awards. As stars started arriving on the 2017 Oscars red carpet, fans noticed a few -- including Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga -- were wearing blue ribbons. Turns out they were supporting the American Civil Liberties Union, the nonprofit legal and advocacy organization. (Ruth Negga's "Loving" character, Mildred Loving, was represented by the ACLU in her real-life legal case.)
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the blue ribbon effort is part of the new "Stand with ACLU" initiative launched this week. The ACLU reached out to all of the major nominees to participate. Nominees Ruth Negga and Lin-Manuel Miranda were seen early on Sunday wearing the ribbons, and "Manchester by the Sea" star Casey Affleck was seen wearing the ribbon when he won for Best Male Lead at Saturday's Independent Spirit Awards.

Thanks @Lin_Manuel, glad you gladly join the fight. And when our children tell our story, they'll tell the story of tonight. #Oscars https://t.co/k5wgvUFRlt
