Other than crazy-obsessed fan bases and a film distributor in Disney, the Marvel and "Star Wars" universes don't appear to overlap much. But there is a hidden theme that ties the two together.As fans well know, Marvel loves planting Easter eggs in its movies, mostly to tease upcoming films or characters., Well, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently revealed to Cinemablend that every Phase II movie also contains a "Star Wars" Easter egg.
"So is this a spoiler for 'Ant-Man' ... not really. I'm obsessed with 'Star Wars.' Who's not? I'm 40 years old. I'm in the movie business. I went to USC," Feige said. "I was sort of looking at it, 'Okay, is Phase Two our 'Empire Strikes Back?'' Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one."
It's true! To wit:
- In "Guardians of the Galaxy," Gamora slices off Groot's arm
- In "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Bucky loses an arm
- In "Thor: The Dark World," Thor seemingly gets his arm cut off by Loki (it was a trick)
- In "Iron Man," Tony cuts off Aldrich Killian's arm
