For a long time, transgender characters made easily caricatured villains in movies, from "Silence of the Lambs" to "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." But now, with Laverne Cox making waves on "Orange Is the New Black," and Jeffrey Tambor winning an Emmy for his starring role on "Transparent," we seem to be having a moment where audiences are ready to watch transgender characters in a more open-minded way.
