CW Orders Lucy Hale-Starring Dramedy Pilot 'Life Sentence'

2017 Winter TCA Tour - Day 6Lucy Hale has plans for life post-"Pretty Little Liars."

The CW recently ordered a pilot for "Life Sentence," an hour-long dramedy starring Hale, Deadline reports. The actress is set to play a character who decides to "live like she was dying" after getting a terminal cancer diagnosis. However, her plan takes an unexpected turn when she finds out doctors were wrong. Fortunate as the news may be, it means she has to deal with the fallout from some of the decisions she's made in the interim. Awkward.

If picked up, the series would be Hale's first major TV role after playing Aria Montgomery for seven seasons on "PLL," Freeform's hit mystery thriller. "Life Sentence" would give fans a chance to see her as a new character -- one who isn't being constantly tortured and blackmailed. An incorrect cancer diagnosis sounds like a cakewalk in comparison.

The project comes from writers Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith, creators of the short-lived CW comedy "Significant Mother."
