Move over, "Private Practice," there's a new "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff in town -- and this one should be hot.
At ABC's upfront presentation today (May 16), Entertainment President Channing Dungey announced still another Shondaland drama was picked up straight to series. The as-yet untitled spinoff would follow firefighters in the same fictionalized Seattle as Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Here's more straight from ABC's press release on the new series:
"Set in a Seattle firehouse, the latest series from the executive producers of 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Scandal' and 'How to Get Away with Murder' follows a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, we follow these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.
'No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and 'Grey's' signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,' said Dungey."
Stacy McKee -- a "Grey's Anatomy" veteran -- will write the script for the project and executive produce the series. Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are executive producers. The series will be produced by ABC Studios.
According to Deadline, this series will debut next season. ABC revealed its fall 2017-2018 lineup earlier today, with "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 airing in the show's usual Thursdays at 8 p.m. timeslot. This new "Grey's" spinoff gives Shondaland five series on ABC, after "Grey's," "Scandal," "How to Get Away With Murder," and the new series "Still Star-Crossed," which premieres May 29.
But speaking of "Grey's" and fire, the Season 13 finale airs this Thursday, May 18, and it's possible we'll see some of those spinoff firefighters in action, since Grey Sloan certainly needs the help, and you can see firefighters in the promo.
