James Gunn is Working on a 'Starsky & Hutch' Reboot

David Soul & Paul M. Glaser In 'Starsky & Hutch'We know "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn loooooves the '70s, so it's not a huge surprise that he's bringing back '70s cop classic "Starsky & Hutch."

The revival series is currently being pitched to broadcast, cable, and streaming networks. According to Deadline, interest is high.

Unlike the comedic 2004 movie version starring Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller, Gunn's approach is being described as "a character-driven one-hour procedural." Even if it's a drama, we assume it will have plenty of Gunn's trademark humor.

It's not clear if the new series will still be set in the '70s.

Per Deadline, Gunn is writing the series with his brother, Brian, and cousin, Mark, and we wouldn't be surprised if there's a recurring role for other brother Sean. James Gunn might direct as well, depending on his schedule.

The original series, which starred Paul Michael Glaser as "streetwise" David Starsky and David Soul as "by-the-book" Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson, ran on ABC from 1975 to 1979. It was set in the fictional town of Bay City and prominently featured Starsky's two-door, red-and-white Ford Gran Torino.
