Drew Barrymore Producing Female-Led Horror Anthology For The CW

2017 Turtle BallDrew Barrymore is all about girl power. The actress/producer is shepherding a new horror anthology series written and directed entirely by women for The CW.

The hour-long "Black Rose Anthology" episodes will explore fear from a woman's perspective and weave in themes like guilty, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival, according to Deadline.

MTV's "Scream" creator Jill Blotevogel will write the pilot episode and executive produce alongside Barrymore and Flower Films partner Nancy Juvonen. Barrymore seems to have acquired a taste for horror after starring in Netflix's "Santa Clarita Diet."

Female directors are underrepresented in Hollywood, especially in the horror genre. Earlier this year, the female-led horror short anthology "XX" debuted at Sundance.

The CW is trying to win back female viewers. Recent shows like "Supergirl" and "Riverdale" are part of that strategy, as are new projects like the "Dynasty" reboot and a female-centric spinoff of "Supernatural."
