"Grey's Anatomy" die-hards have watched so many beloved couples break up over the years that it's no wonder Ben and Bailey fans are worried about what the show's firefighter spinoff will mean for the twosome.
Unfortunately, the only people who can truly answer that question aren't sharing yet -- not even with Jason George, the actor who plays Ben. Still, George is closer to the situation than the rest of us are, so we're glad he spoke with TVLine about his expectations for the TV relationship's future. We can breathe a little easier knowing he anticipates the couple will remain together.
"There will definitely be crossovers between 'Grey's' and the spinoff show," he told TVLine, pointing to how "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy" used to do it.
With characters from each show popping up on the other from time to time, George is optimistic that Ben and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) can continue their marital bliss beyond his "Grey's Anatomy" departure.
"Bailey can come home and fall into bed, and there's Ben, and they can talk about their day," he said. "Or Ben comes home from fighting fires all day and falls into bed, and there's Bailey."
The logistics of that all seem entirely possible. Plus, it might help viewers get on board with the spinoff if a "Grey's Anatomy" staple like Bailey is worked into the story occasionally. Their long-standing relationship could benefit the series instead of present an obstacle.
George is definitely an advocate for keeping Ben and Bailey together.
"I've come to really love their relationship," he told TV Line. "I'm proud of it. They're grown-ass people with grown-ass problems who work it out no matter what."
We'll see more of the couple when "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 premieres Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on ABC. The firefighter spinoff series' debut has not yet been announced.
