New 'Luke Cage' Season 2 Trailer Crowns Alfre Woodward as Harlem's Queen

"Harlem doesn't need a hero; it needs a queen," Alfre Woodard's Mariah Dillard proclaims in Netflix's new trailer for "Marvel's Luke Cage" Season 2. To which we say: Yasss!

The shady politician/crime lord (and now nightclub owner, after her cousin's death last season) promises to Make Harlem Great Again. Of course, she's got a major obstacle in the form of the indestructible Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and a headache in the form of her disapproving daughter Tilda (Gabrielle Dennis).

And Mariah's nefarious plans are also threatened by the arrival of the bulletproof Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir) and another crime lord named Rosalie (Annabella Sciorra).

But for all their differences, it seems Mariah and Luke might actually be on the same side this time. "Harlem can only handle one devil at a time," he notes. And the devil you know ...

"Luke Cage" Season 2 premieres June 22 on Netflix.

Tina Fey Pitched a Liz Lemon and Leslie Knope Spinoff, and We Need it to Happen

Tina Fey may have just inadvertently pitched the greatest television show ever, merging two beloved NBC comedies starring badass female characters. Now if only someone could convince her to actually make it a reality.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the Tonys red carpet on Sunday night, where Fey was supporting her nominated adaptation of "Mean Girls," she was asked about those never-ending rumors of a "30 Rock" reboot. Though the writer-actress admitted earlier this year that she had been mulling the idea, she also made it clear that such a revival was not currently in the works.

When the subject was broached again on Sunday, Fey said "we're nowhere" with regards to news of a "30 Rock" reboot. But instead, she offered fans an even better suggestion.

"Amy's willing to do a 'Parks & Rec' reboot," Fey told ET of her longtime pal and frequent costar, Amy Poehler. "Maybe we should just do a Liz Lemon-Leslie Knope spinoff."

Excuse us while we high five a million angels and eat some celebratory waffles.

Poehler sparked "Parks and Recreation" reboot rumors last month when she said she would definitely be on board for a revival sometime down the road. And seeing Leslie and Fey's "30 Rock" heroine team up on their own show is quite possibly the best bit of fan fiction wish fulfillment we could ever hope for.

Obviously, Fey was just joking around, but if anyone can make this happen, and make it believable and hilarious and wonderful, it's our favorite celebrity BFFs. We'll keep our fingers crossed and light some Li'l Sebastian prayer candles.

'Incredibles 2' Review: It's Good, but Not Great

Smart, thrilling but strangely ephemeral, "Incredibles 2" is a great example of what happens when anticipation works against the success of a movie.

It's been 14 years since director and writer Brad Bird delivered his original tale of a crime-fighting family and the society that may or may not want it, but several cinematic universes -- and too many lackluster Pixar sequels later -- Bird's follow-up lacks its predecessor's freshness, not the least of which because Bird chooses to pick up right where he left off, and even take a few steps backward in several instances. Nevertheless, another mostly successful combination of the brisk, operatic action and recognizable familial strife that made the first film so appealing, this sequel works much better when it's exploring the filmmaker's ideas dramatically than when it's serving as a soapbox for cranky opinions about technology, parenting, and gender roles.

The film opens with The Incredibles' showdown with the Underminer (John Ratzenberger), the villainous mole man whose arrival at the end of the first film signaled the family's readiness to work together -- or so they thought. Underminer escapes, and the ensuing destruction of Metroville caused by his equipment closes the door on the possibility of legalizing superheroes. Thankfully, Helen (Holly Hunter) and Bob (Craig T. Nelson) discover a pair of new advocates in Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk) and his sister Evelyn (Catherine Keener), telecommunications tycoons who want Elastigirl to lead the charge in changing public perception about the Incredibles and their gifted colleagues.

As Helen heads off to stop crime and generate some positive press coverage, Bob agrees to stay home with Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner), and Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile), discovering it takes a different kind of hero to juggle the daily responsibilities of childcare. But when a new supervillain calling himself the Screenslaver perpetrates an escalating series of crimes against allies to the superhero cause, Helen must work twice as hard not only to protect Metroville, but their fleeting opportunity for legitimacy -- even as the separation from her husband and kids begins to exert a greater toll on the whole family.

While it makes sense for Bird to not move too far past the events of the previous film -- he cleverly conceived each of the characters to suit the mindset, or energy level, of parents and children at certain ages -- the fact that he immediately walks back the prospect of Supers gaining legal status feels like a sequel idea that would (and should) be called out for its laziness. (Like, say, killing off the closest loved one of a superhero who spent the entire first movie trying to reconnect with her.) But what's more disruptive to the forward momentum of this movie than that choice is the fact that the characters repeatedly stop to discuss that choice in, well, a lot more detail than a superhero movies needs in 2018.

Both of the "Captain American" sequels and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (plus a few others) more or less explicitly examine the responsibility of heroes, the repercussions of their actions, and so forth; do we need to watch the Parrs bicker over the dinner table about laws that keep them from doing good, or shared drinks over the philosophical implications of heroes in a world of normal folks?

Additionally, Bird pays lip service to the unbalanced gender dynamics of both the Parr family and the Deavor family (Winston is CEO; Evelyn is a tech designer), but the conversations mostly sit there on screen, slowing down a story that sometimes is making wonderful strides forward and other times feels disappointingly regressive.
In 2018, what's new or original about Bob's chauvinist struggle to "be okay" with Helen going out into the world while he stays home with the kids? Or, that he has trouble adapting to more "domestic" responsibilities like babysitting, homework, and emotional support? "Mr. Mom," starring Michael Keaton, covered this territory 35 years ago. Meanwhile, there's a whole conversation about how people will readily sacrifice "quality for ease," and the movie features a villain who rails against dependency on screens and devices. Both certainly ring true, but they ultimately just reinforce so many other ideas in the movie that sound like Dad Rants, especially when they only peripherally tie into the actual events of the rest of the story.

That said, there are still many pleasures to be found in the film, which tries with moderate success to move past these underwhelming plot strands as briskly as possible, and tackle a few with exactly the kind of incisive specificity that made the first film such a jazzy, relatable ride. (Bob's effort to help Violet reconnect with a boy she likes unfolds with the right kind of sweet, well-intentioned naivete that many other parts of the movie handle with, well, just too much impatience or exasperation.)

Though some of the Jack-Jack scenes feel like isolated vignettes better suited for the special features of the movie's home video release, Bird finds some interesting ways to utilize the character's unpredictable powers (and personality) to great comedic dividends. Additionally, it handles its action scenes even better than last time (Bird clearly picked up a few things from working on "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol"); a motorcycle chase in the middle of the film is fluid, fast-paced, and exhilarating, and unlike similar sequences in so many other animated movies, here it exudes a real sense of danger and suspense.

Ultimately, what Bird has created with "Incredibles 2" is an expected sequel to the first film, but also one that doesn't quite feel fully worthy of it -- something that rewards our wait, but doesn't necessarily amplify or transcend what made its predecessor so fun, exciting, and unique. Of course, maybe that's "enough" when so many sequels drop off precipitously in quality; but after a movie called "Incredibles" lives up to its name and then some, it's hard for "No, Really, It's Very Good" not to feel a like at least a little bit of a disappointment.

'Game of Thrones' Author Suggests Title for Prequel & Updates on Other Spinoffs

There were five prequel spinoff ideas in the works for "Game of Thrones." One prequel was just officially announced for a pilot order. Another is officially "shelved." Three others are still in development.

That's the scoop from author George R.R. Martin, whose works are being adapted for these spinoffs. He also assured readers of his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that work on the sixth novel "The Winds of Winter," is still his "top priority." (Pause for your own eyeroll, if needed.)

Martin prefers to call the spinoffs "successor shows" to "Game of Thrones."

The one that HBO ordered to pilot, from Jane Goldman, is set 10 thousand years before "Game of Thrones." In his latest blog post, GRRM revealed his choice for a series title:

"This one really puts the PRE in prequel, since it is set not ninety years before GAME OF THRONES (like Dunk & Egg), or a few hundred years, but rather ten thousand years (well, assuming the oral histories of the First Men are accurate, but there are maesters at the Citadel who insist it has only been half that long).

We're very early in the process, of course, with the pilot order just in, so we don't have a director yet, or a cast, or a location, or even a title. (My vote would be THE LONG NIGHT, which says it all, but I'd be surprised if that's where we end up. More likely HBO will want to work the phrase "game of thrones" in there somewhere. We'll know sooner or later).

Yes. "Game of Thrones: The Long Night," or some such. "The Long Night: Game of Thrones Continues." Others are suggesting "Age of Heroes," which would be OK, but "The Long Night" sounds less like a CW crossover.

Here's GRRM's update on the other GoT spinoffs in the works:

"As for the other successor shows... if you have been following along, you know that we started with four, and eventually went to five. One of those has been shelved, I am given to understand, and of course Jane's pilot is now moving to film. But that does not mean the others are dead. Three more GAME OF THRONES prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development. Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come. We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all. But this is television, so nothing is certain."

So three more remain in active development and he's confident about at least one more pilot. Sounds good.

Of course, we still have the final season of "Game of Thrones" to look forward to. Season 8 just held its wrap party, although filming doesn't seem to be completely finished. HBO has yet to share a trailer or official photos or the release date, beyond telling us it will premiere in 2019.

Directors: Don't Assume 'Avengers 4' Will Revive the Dead Characters With Sequels Ahead

Stan Lee just tried to give fans hope for their "Avengers: Infinity War" favorites, but -- with a snap of their fingers -- the Russo Brothers want to take it all away.

SPOILERS AHEAD FROM 'INFINITY WAR' & MAYBE 'AVENGERS 4'.

There's a built-in conundrum with "Avengers 3" and "Avenger 4" -- which used to be "Infinity War" Part 1 and Part 2. Certain characters, like Peter Parker and Star-Lord and most of the "Guardians of the Galaxy," are vaporized at the end of the movie.

And yet ... Peter Parker has a "Spider-Man" sequel filming this July for release next July and the "Guardians" have a third movie coming out in 2020.

There's also meant to be a third "Spider-Man" movie coming as part of Tom Holland's trilogy.

Plus, dusted heroes Black Panther and Bucky Barnes are just getting started, and we're expecting a lot more from them in the next phase of the MCU.

Also, original Avengers Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth have been pretty vocal about passing the torch to the new crew after "Avengers 4," when their contracts are up. Robert Downey Jr. is part of that original bunch, too. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that they are members of the non-dusted characters.

So with all of that information already out there ... the vaporized people come back, right? Obviously? What are the stakes if people who "died" don't stay dead?

HuffPost asked Joe and Anthony Russo to comment on the criticism that the "deaths" of the dusted characters have no meaning since we know they'll be back for sequels. Here are their responses:

"Here's the thing, I think it's important to remember anything is possible in the MCU," Anthony said. "Just because there's a sequel on the books doesn't mean ... people become accustomed to time moving linearly in the MCU. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case. There's a lot of very inventive ways of where the story can go from here."

"There's four years between 'Guardians 2' and 'Infinity War,'" Joe added. "That's a long time, and a lot of 'Guardians' stories to tell. Again, as Anthony said, don't expect everything to move forward in a linear fashion in the Marvel universe."

Um, James Gunn already said "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" will take place after these two "Avengers" movies, adding that "it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies."

That doesn't mean Gamora would return, though, since she wasn't dusted. She was sacrificed by Thanos. She, Loki, Heimdall, and Vision were killed, not snapped, so they may be dead dead. Then again, we're willing to take their advice and not assume we really know.

But they are definitely messing with time at this point, and we have to keep that in mind.

We know that "Ant-Man and the Wasp," coming out this July, takes place before "Infinity War." "Captain Marvel" takes place long before "Infinity War," but will probably catch up somehow since "Infinity War" ended with Nick Fury sending a message to Captain Marvel. Her first movie opens two months before "Avengers 4."

Set spoilers have already connected "Avengers 4" to time travel to the past. It also looks like the film will also include a significant time jump ahead from "Infinity War."

Thanos has the Time Stone at this point, but we're operating in Doctor Strange's one timeline where the good guys defeat Thanos. We also know the "Avengers 4" synopsis mentions a "turning point" and "sacrifices," and fans already suspect they know what that means. Maybe they're right. We'll all find out when "Avengers 4" opens May 3, 2019.

Jimmy Kimmel Irritates Ryan Gosling in Space for 'First Man' Interview

NEEDS. MATT. DAMON.

Seriously. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" fudged a George Clooney "Gravity" cameo (which was pretty funny) for this "First Man" interview with Ryan Gosling, but failed to tie-in the Matt Damon feud via one of Damon's astronaut movies? Houston, we have a problem.

As one fan suggested in the video comments:

"They missed a perfect opportunity to pass by Mars and see Matt Damon calling Jimmy to pick him up.?"

Classic. They could've picked either "The Martian" or "Interstellar" -- either would work, or just pretend he's been floating out there for years since no one missed him backstage.

Anyway, Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong in the upcoming movie "First Man," which debuted its trailer during Jimmy Kimmel's show on Friday night. To promote the movie, Kimmel and Gosling did "the first talk show interview in outer space," with Kimmel basically spending the whole time asking silly questions and irritating Gosling.

Watch the interview:And check out the trailer: "First Man" opens in theaters October 12th.

'Lucifer' Star: Streaming Network Has to Save Show by June 16

Hell hath no fury like "Lucifer" fans scorned -- but heaven also has no hope like "Lucifer" fans waiting for salvation.

"Lucifer" was canceled by Fox after three seasons and two bonus episodes. Fans have been tweeting their hearts out, along with the stars, to try and get someone to pick up the show. Tom Ellis and other cast members have mentioned conversations with potential new networks, and now we're hearing that whatever happens has to happen by this Saturday, June 16.

That's the word from Lauren German (Detective Chloe Decker), who spoke during the "Lucifer" panel at Oz Comic-Con in Melbourne, Australia. Here's her #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer update, via ComicBook.com:

"It's beautiful. I can't tell you guys how hard it is to hear that the show is ending and then she and I come out here and see all of you and then online the hashtags and the petitions being signed and the campaigns that are going. We don't know that stuff's gonna happen. It just pops up and it's just, you know it's heartwarming, it's amazing, and I don't know if all of you know basically you know Fox has cancelled us, so we won't be happening on Fox, but there's a chance that a streaming network might pick us up and that would have to happen by June 16th. It's like we can't contractually audition for anything until June 16th and then, sadly, we are free to go after that. So, we're just praying, praying it happens."

She said something similar to The Iris of Australia:

"Now, I have heard, not to get anyone's hopes up or anything because I'm certainly am proceeding as if I'm looking for a new job but, I've heard that there is a chance a streaming channel could pick us up and we will hear about it by the 16th June. So, if it happens, amazing, and if not, you know, onward. Yeah, I was completely surprised that we didn't get a season 4. It just seemed like it was gonna happen and we've so much of a story left to tell and I do know that our set in L.A. have not been taken down yet so, you know, that's a good sign."

So June 16 is Cinderella's midnight. If the stars know what's happening (or not happening) at that point, they will probably pass the word straight on to the fans.

In the meantime, Lauren German retweeted notes like this one to keep fans pushing for a pickup:

Stan Lee Gives 'Avengers' Fans Hope for Fallen 'Friends' in Awesome Video

Watch your six, Thanos. Stan Lee is coming for you.

The 95-year-old Marvel Comics icon posted a badass little video offering fans some hope after "Avengers: Infinity War."

SPOILER ALERT.

As you know, the movie ends with Thanos snapping his fingers and vaporizing half the population. Before that point, he had already killed off Loki, Heimdall, and Gamora.

Stan Lee referenced Thanos' actions in a short video assuring fans he'd have their "friends up and at 'em" before long:

"Holy smoke! I go out of town for a few days, and when I get back I find out Thanos has destroyed everything -- all my characters! That's the last time I ever take a discount vacation. Well, unfortunately it means a lot of new work for me. Don't worry, before you know it, I'll have your friends up and at 'em. And if I were Thanos, I'd start heading out of town. Excelsior."

Stan Lee has a cameo in every new Marvel movie, so it's not like he didn't know what was up. He played Peter Parker and Ned's bus driver in "Infinity War," asking the students what was the matter -- hadn't they ever seen a spaceship before?

But many "Avengers" fans are looking for hope for their favorite characters, especially the many dust-busted at the end of the film, so hopefully this helps.

"Avengers 4" should answer a lot of questions when it arrives May 3, 2019.

Box Office: 'Ocean's 8' Has Best Opening of Franchise, 'Jurassic World 2' Huge Overseas

"Ocean's 8" stole the box office crown this week from "Solo," pushing it down -- and way down at that -- to No. 2.

The Sandra Bullock/Cate Blanchett-fronted "Ocean's" sequel opened to $41.5 million. That's a bit higher than the best opening of the George Clooney/Brad Pitt trilogy, "Ocean's Twelve" in 2004, with $39.1 million.

Second place went to "Solo: A Star Wars Story," but it didn't even get half of the "Ocean's 8" money this week, settling for $15.1M at second place. (Last week it topped the box office with a sad second week tally of just under $30 million.)

"Deadpool 2" edged out new horror-thriller "Hereditary," but barely.

The "Deadpool" sequel reported $13.65 million for No. 3 on this week's box office chart, with Toni Collette's horror at $13.03 million for No. 4.

Still, that was a record for indie studio A24; as Deadline noted, "Heredity" topped their previous big opener -- "The Witch" -- by nearly 40 percent. "Hereditary" is riding rave reviews from critics, although audiences don't seem quite as sold. ("Hereditary" actually ended up with a savage D+ CinemaScore, which ... actually, the dichotomy of rave reviews and a D+ may help sell even more tickets. At least you won't just shrug it off!)

The other major newbie of the week, "Hotel Artemis," had to setting for No. 8 at the box office, with $3.1 million. That's below the indefatigable "Avengers: Infinity War" at No. 5 with another $6.8 million (putting it *thisclose* to $2 billion), last week's debut "Adrift" at No. 6 with $5.05 million, and "Book Club" still in the game with $4.2 million at No. 7.

Meanwhile, "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" is already devouring prey at the international box office, which is a good way to get itself early headlines. It won't open in North America until June 22 -- after "Incredibles 2" takes over next week -- but the "Jurassic World" sequel debuted in 48 markets overseas, earning itself a hefty $151.1 million for its international opening.

What's next? "Incredibles 2" has every plan to beat "Finding Dory" for the record of best animated opening, when it arrives in U.S. theaters this coming Friday, June 15. And then "Jurassic World 2" will probably take the crown for its North American debut on June 22, but it may still be a close race between supes and dinos.

15 Things You Never Knew About 'Jurassic Park' on its 25th Anniversary

Watching "Jurassic Park" for the first time was like glimpsing into the future. So what does it say that this beloved Steven Spielberg movie is now 25 years old?

The film, released on June 11 1993, changed the way we make movies. To mark that major milestone, and to pass the time until "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" hits theaters, here are some fun facts you might not know about "Jurassic Park."
1. Ian Malcolm's line, "I think we're extinct," was a late addition to the script. In EW's oral history of the film, back in 2013, the line's origins started with dino supervisor Phil Tippet, who was brought on to oversee animating the dinos in stop-motion before ILM's Dennis Muren presented his first CG animation test in wireframe form. "Steven asked me how I felt after seeing the footage," Tippet revealed, "and I said, 'I think I'm extinct.' He said, 'That's a great line. I'm putting that in the movie.'

2. Prior to directing "Jurassic Park," Spielberg was working with writer Michael Crichton to develop a film version of "ER." The two returned to the hospital-set project after "Jurassic Park" was released, turning it into a TV series instead.
3. Despite the dinosaurs being the biggest selling point of the movie, "Jurassic Park" features only 15 minutes of actual dinosaur footage.

4. "Terminator 2" director James Cameron said that he wanted to direct "Jurassic Park," but the film rights were sold before he had a chance to bid on them. Cameron has admitted that this was probably for the best, as his version would have been darker and more violent.
5. One of the reasons Spielberg cast Ariana Richards as Lex is that she screamed so loudly and convincingly during her audition, that Spielberg's sleeping wife woke up and ran into the room to see what was wrong.

6. In one shot, one of the monitors at Nedry's cluttered workstation can be seen playing the movie "Jaws," also directed by Spielberg.
7. One of the most difficult effects to achieve in the film was also among the simplest -- the cup of water that vibrates when the T-Rex nears the tour. Special effects artist Michael Lantieri finally cracked the code by attaching the cup to a guitar string underneath the dashboard and pulling it.

8. Julianne Moore was one of many actresses who tried out for the role of Ellie Sattler. She was instead cast as Sarah Harding in 1997's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."
9. Despite the fact that the Jurassic Park logo features a skeletal T-Rex, the T-Rex actually lived during the Cretaceous Period. Crichton admitted that he just picked the design because he thought it looked cool.

10. The film establishes Ian Malcolm and John Hammond as polar opposites when it comes to scientific philosophy. That clash is even reflected in their respective costume designs, with Malcolm wearing all-black outfits and Hammond all-white.
11. The film greatly exaggerates the size of Velociraptors for dramatic effect. However, during post-production, a new, larger species of raptor -- called the Utahraptor -- was discovered.

12. Between his salary and back-end royalties, Spielberg earned a whopping $250 million from "Jurassic Park."
13. The dilophosaurus is never shown walking during its brief appearance as it attacks Nedry, as the puppeteers struggled to properly convey movement. Spielberg eventually decided that simply having the dilophosaurus appear next to Nedry was more effective.

14. Both "Jurassic Park" and "Schindler's List" were released in 1993, with Spielberg having to finish post-production on the former via videoconference while filming the latter. The process proved so grueling that Spielberg didn't release another film for four years after.

15. Laura Dern, who played Dr. Ellie Sattler, recalled in Entertainment Weekly's recent oral history of "Jurassic Park" how Spielberg pitched her the movie: "I know that you're doing your independent films, but I need you to be chased by dinosaurs, in awe of dinosaurs, and have the adventure of a lifetime. Will you do this with me?" Her "Wild at Heart" co-star Nicolas Cage, who said he'd always dreamed of being in a dinosaur movie, urged her to say yes.

Matthew Vaughn Planning 'Kick-Ass' Reboot, 'Kingsman' Spinoffs

"Kick-Ass" may be taking different names in the future.

Matthew Vaughn, who directed the 2010 hit teen superhero movie, told Empire that he's planning on a reboot of the "Kick-Ass" film universe, which is based on Mark Millar's comic books.

"We're going to reboot Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl," Vaughn confirms. "Look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues."

That seems to hint that Patience Lee, an African-American single mother will take on vigilante mantle. Vaughn also indicated that a Hit-Girl solo film is also in discussion and could focus on an older Mindy Macready (or even go back to her younger years training under Big Daddy).

Vaughn also discussed plans to expand the "Kingsman: The Secret Service" universe. A third movie in the original series is in development and will serve as "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship," the director said.

He's also working on a spin-off titled "Kingsman: The Great Game" that would explore the spy organization in the early 1900s. And also in the works is an eight-hour "Kingsman" TV show and a "Statesman" movie following the American agents played by Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry.

Michael Myers Returns in First 'Halloween' Trailer

HyperFocal: 0He's baaaaack! The first trailer for the new "Halloween" is finally here and Michael Myers returns, knife in hand, ready to terrorize us all.

The movie is a direct sequel to the 1978 classic John Carpenter film (ignoring all the other films in the franchise). Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode, who's still bearing the physical and emotional scars of the first movie.

Her worst nightmare comes true when Michael Myers (played by Nick Castle, also from the original movie) breaks out of the asylum. And now, he's not just going after Laurie, but also her daughter (Judy Greer) and granddaughter (Andi Matichak).

The trailer seems to indicate this sequel's tone is very much old-school "Halloween" — just straight-up psychopath on a murder spree.

As Curtis told Entertainment Weekly, "The vibe here is the same as vibe as 40 years ago. [Director] David Gordon Green and [cowriters] Danny McBride and [Jeff Fradley] and their cameraman and their sound mixer are all best friends. Everyone who's come here has come here to honor Halloween 1978. The prop master, Mick Flowers, did 'The Revenant.' He did the f—ing 'Revenant'! Do you know what I'm saying?"

"Halloween" opens October 19.

Ryan Gosling Is Neil Armstrong in First Look at 'First Man'

Ryan Gosling is reuniting with "La La Land" director Damien Chazelle for "First Man."

The first trailer is premiering tonight (Friday, June 8) during Ryan Gosling's appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

We have very high expectations, based on the subject matter and pedigree of everyone involved.

The official "First Man" poster was revealed ahead of the trailer debut, showing Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the moon:

As the poster shows, Claire Foy is billed alongside Gosling, playing his wife, Janet Armstrong. Corey Stoll plays Buzz Aldrin, with Kyle Chandler as Deke Slayton, Jason Clarke as Ed White, and Pablo Schreiber as Jim Lovell. If not from history itself, film fans should at least recognize those names from "Apollo 13."

Here's the official synopsis (via Collider):

"On the heels of their six-time Academy Award-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures' First Man, the riveting story of NASA's mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969.

A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history."

"First Man" was written by Josh Singer ("Spotlight") and Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), and also stars Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, and Shea Whigham. It opens in theaters on October 12th.

Here's When 'Avengers 4' Finishes Reshoots & 'Spider-Man: Homecoming 2' Films

Chris Evans has said that the upcoming reshoots for "Avengers 4" will most likely mark his last time suiting up as Captain America.

That time is coming soon.

That Evans interview had mentioned the reshoots for this fall, but -- according to a report from Omega Underground -- "Avengers 4" reshoots will take place over the summer in Atlanta and New York City and be complete by September 1.

Often when fans hear the word "reshoots" they think there's trouble in paradise. But Marvel pre-plans reshoots/additional photography and schedules it out way in advance so they can lock down their high-profile cast to return. It's part of their usual MO, and their usual MO has yet to suck.

Captain America: Civil War European Premiere - LondonThe Omega reporter, Christopher Marc, also said Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" will wrap filming in December. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had already mentioned the "Spider-Man" sequel -- which apparently cast Jake Gyllenhaal as the villain -- would start filming in July.

How will this "Spider-Man" resolve the, um, major obstacle set up at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War"? That's gonna have to be "Avengers 4's" problem. "Avengers 4" will give a "finale" to some storylines, and launch some new ones.

Kevin Feige recently talked to Collider about the upcoming MCU production schedule:

I know you have not really announced the 2020 movies but obviously Spider-Man must be getting ready to start filming soon, it's supposed to be the summer. Guardians 3 is coming 2020. What's coming up for Marvel in terms of filming later this year?

FEIGE: Spider-Man, that's it. Spider-Man starts in July and that comes out in July of 2019.

So there's nothing else being done later this year or just stuff that hasn't been announced yet?

FEIGE: There's a lot of development work on the future of the MCU and things like that but Spider-Man will be the only thing filming. There might be additional photography for—there's Ant-Man and Wasp going on, Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, but Spider-Man is the first.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp" opens in theaters July 6. "Captain Marvel" started filming in March and will be released in March 2019, two months before "Avengers 4" arrives on May 3, 2019. "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" opens next July.

Meanwhile, "Avengers: Infinity War" is close to $2 billion at the worldwide box office and will reportedly be released on digital July 31 and on Blu-ray August 14. But Marvel has yet to share any details on the home release.

'Hereditary' Wins Horror Fans' Hearts as 'a Masterpiece of Freaky Filmmaking'

"Ocean's 8" and "Hotel Artemis" may get the most attention this opening weekend, but don't sleep on "Hereditary."

Or, rather, if you watch "Hereditary," you may not sleep.

The indie horror thriller starring Toni Collette has quietly picked up a lot of effusive praise as a modern horror hit. Not only does it have a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent from 128 reviews (as of this writing), its Metascore is 87/100. So critics didn't just approve of it enough to say it's "fresh" over "rotten", they REALLY liked it. For comparison's sake, "A Quiet Place" -- another recent indie horror darling -- has a Metascore of 82.

Here's a sampling of critics' blurbs, in case you're on the fence about seeing this one:

• "No shot seems wasted, the editing is a sturdy and linear rebuke to the quick-cut madness that's infected so many recent genre films, and the sound and set design are meticulous and spare." -- Barry Hertz, Globe and Mail

• "[A] terrifying thriller that pins you to the back of your chair and leaves you paralyzed in fear." -- Adam Graham, Detroit News

• "Forget the 'scarier than The Exorcist' line (whatever that means) that Hereditary has been tagged with - this is a movie that lives up to the hype on its own terms." -- Hugh Armitage, Digital Spy

• "a masterpiece of freaky filmmaking, unsettling from its very first image through its hellish denouement." -- Laura Clifford, Reeling Reviews

• "This is a horror film for the ages, a slowly unraveling puzzle of psychological torment that promises an amazing career from freshman feature writer-director Ari Aster." -- Leigh Monson, Birth.Movies.Death.

• "Hereditary" is closer in tone to the likes of "The Babadook," "It Follows," "A Quiet Place" and "It Comes at Night," where the dread and fear come not from what you see but what you think you might see." -- Cary Darling, Houston Chronicle

• "[Ari] Aster has spent a lot of time studying "The Shining," "The Exorcist," and "Rosemary's Baby." It's nice to have a classicist back in town." -- Ty Burr, Boston Globe

• "Through a traumatic story of familial grief, debuting director Ari Aster has pulled off a relentless horror film, possibly a new genre classic, with scares for the ages." -- Tomris Laffly, Film Journal International

• "[Hereditary is] a movie so horrifying and good that you have to see it, even if you shouldn't want to, even if you might never sleep peacefully again." -- Jake Coyle, Associated Press

• "If there's a better horror movie this year, I'm going to need new pants." -- Eric D. Snider, Crooked Marquee

Toni Collette is due more awards love. It would be amazing to see this get her there. Why not? "Get Out" just showed, once again, that horror movies can and should be taken seriously alongside dramas.

However, not everyone was charmed, so here's one warning shot from a more critical critic:

• "Hereditary takes itself too seriously, it's too long, too predictable and frequently frustrating." -- Michael Smith, Tulsa World

"Hereditary" -- which played its trailer ahead of "Peter Rabbit" that one time in Australia, #classic -- also stars Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Ann Dowd, Milly Shapiro, Mallory Bechtel, and Brock McKinney. It is now in theaters.

Anne Hathaway Wants Matthew McConaughey to Kill for Her in 'Serenity' Trailer

"Interstellar" stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway reunited for a very different kind of one-word movie in "Serenity."

Instead of astronauts, they play ex-spouses -- and she asks him to kill her current husband (Jason Clarke) and frame it as an accident.

Just drop him in the ocean and let the sharks take him out. No prob, right?

The first "Serenity" trailer was just released, with so much classic McConaughey whispering you almost expect it to segue into a Lincoln commercial:Here's the full synopsis:

"From the creative mind of Oscar nominee Steven Knight comes a daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller. Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen's appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he'd tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems."

"Serenity" also stars Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. You can't get your "Serenity" now -- sorry, Kramer -- but the film opens in theaters on October 19.

Netflix CEO Defends '13 Reasons Why' Season 3 Renewal: 'Nobody Has to Watch It'

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings defended "13 Reasons Why" from backlash in the wake of the Season 3 renewal news.

One particularly critical group is the Parents Television Council, which condemned the network and argued it "potentially has the blood of children on their hands" with the series.

"13 Reasons Why" followed the wake of a teenager's suicide, with critics arguing that the show's graphic content glamorized suicide. Netflix added trigger warnings, and -- before Season 2 -- a viewer guide and after show. Season 2 includes a thwarted school shooting plotline, leading the Season 2 Los Angeles premiere to be canceled after the Santa Fe school shooting.

During Netflix's annual shareholders' meeting (via Deadline), Hastings defended the decision to renew the show:

"13 Reasons Why has been enormously popular and successful. It's engaging content. It is controversial. But nobody has to watch it."

Parents Television Council President Tim Winter shared a lengthy statement in response (via Deadline). Here's an excerpt, which mentions SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2:

"Netflix has delivered a ticking time bomb to teens and children who watch 13 Reasons Why. The content and thematic elements of the second season are even worse than we expected. We would have liked to have 13 reasons for hope and redemption following the graphic suicide of the lead female teen character, but rather than providing a path forward, the season only provides cause for despondency.

We condemn Netflix for renewing its teen-targeted suicide drama 13 Reasons Why. The company already potentially has the blood of children on their hands from keeping this series – with its graphic suicide scene, its sodomization of a teen boy and a potential school shooting, among other adult content – on its platform for children to view."

"13 Reasons Why" Season 2 dropped on Netflix May 18, and Season 3 will bring 13 more episodes in 2019.

Reese Witherspoon Confirms 'Legally Blonde 3' With Pink Bikini Clip

'Incredibles 2' Could Top 'Finding Dory' for Biggest Animated Movie Opening Ever

Give Jack-Jack all the money!

"Incredibles 2" is on track to sell the most advance tickets of any animated movie. It may also beat "Finding Dory" for the title of biggest animated film opening ever at the domestic box office.

That's the word from Deadline, quoting Fandango's latest figures on "The Incredibles" sequel.

"Incredibles 2" is pacing to beat the pre-sales of "Finding Dory," "Wonder Woman," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and "Suicide Squad" -- all successful summer releases.

It helps to leave fans wanting more, and the 14-year wait for an "Incredibles" sequel seems to have stoked appetites.

Deadline reports that the most ambitious estimates for "Incredibles 2" put its opening in the $140 million range, which would break the record $135 million opening for "Finding Dory."

Pre-sales don't always tell the story, and can be false leads -- as they were for "Solo: A Star Wars Story." But it's telling that "Incredibles 2" premiered earlier this week for critics and fans and the reaction was very positive. If "Incredibles 2" gets good reviews -- and it most likely will -- it will probably make or possibly even break the box office projections. That wasn't the case for "Solo," which opened to lukewarm reviews.

But! Hopefully Disney-Pixar doesn't take that to mean they should greenlight more sequels or spinoffs right away. The lesson should be that less -- or at least less frequent -- brings more.

"Incredibles 2" opens in theaters June 15.

Claire Foy's 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' Gets Trailer, Poster & Mixed Reactions

Noomi Rapace. Rooney Mara. Now Claire Foy.

Author Stieg Larsson's iconic character, Lisbeth Salander, is returning to the big screen again in "The Girl in the Spider's Web."

"The Crown" queen Claire Foy transformed for her role as Lisbeth, following in the footsteps of the three Swedish films starring Noomi Rapace; and then David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig.

This reboot is said to pick up with Lisbeth Salander (Foy) and Swedish journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Sverrir Gudnason) years after the events of "Dragon Tattoo."

The first trailer was kept intentionally mysterious, director and co-writer Fede Alvarez told EW, because people are always complaining when the trailer gives away the whole movie. But people are always complaining in general, so you can rarely win.

Watch the trailer:Here's the poster:

Here are some photos: Lisbeth Salander (Claire Foy) in Columbia Pictures' THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB.So far, fan reaction is mixed. Some are just confused. Some will watch Claire Foy in anything, or will follow the books anywhere. Others can't help but compare Foy to Rooney Mara in the David Fincher film:

"The Girl in the Spider's Web" costars Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Vicky Krieps. It opens in theaters on November 9th.
