Get Ready for a 'Pretty Woman' Musical

pretty woman musical

Zip up your thigh-high boots and crank the Roy Orbison: "Pretty Woman" is strutting on over to Broadway.

Garry Marshall, who directed the 1990 film that made star Julia Roberts a household name, is working with a team of Hollywood heavyweights on turning "Pretty Woman" into a musical, and are currently seeking a composer, lyricist, and stage director to join the creative process. Marshall and the movie's co-screenwriter, J.F. Lawton, are currently at work on the book, and veteran Broadway producer Paula Wagner will back the project.

Fans of the hooker with a heart of gold story shouldn't get their hopes up too high just yet, though. Variety reports that a musical version of "Woman" has been in the works since at least 2001, and without any songwriters on board yet, it will be at least a few years before a finalized stage show can materialize.

Still, Marshall has been involved in plans for a "Pretty Woman" Broadway show since the beginning, and is determined to see his vision through. Stay tuned to see how this project progresses.
