Has 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Found Its Female Lead? (PHOTO)

Lupita Nyong'o is riding high after snagging an Oscar for her debut film role in "12 Years a Slave." Could she be headed to a galaxy far, far away be next?

Sources say that Nyong'o has already met with "Star Wars: Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams to discuss a lead role in the newest chapter of the series. The actress -- who reportedly met Abrams shortly before her Academy Award win earlier this month -- could potentially be vying for the part of a relative of Obi-Wan Kenobi, described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a non-Caucasian role."

Abrams has been meeting with a host of young actors and actresses in recent months, so it's unclear just how close Nyong'o is to securing the part. We think she'd be a great fit, though, if only because she'd bring some gravitas to the series, whose most recent installments, the regrettable "Episode I," "II," and "III," left longtime fans of the franchise disappointed.

Nyong'o had been up for the role of Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin story, "Pan" (a part that went to Rooney Mara), and is also in the running to co-star with Daniel Craig in the courtroom drama "The Whole Truth." Whether she lands "Episode VII" or not, we think she'll be around Hollywood for a while.
