'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Casting Notices Spark Speculation

Game of Thrones"Game of Thrones" season 7 isn't going to air until summer (because the show needs to delay filming during winter, because you know, winter is here), but the HBO drama is gearing up by sending out the casting notices.

Watchers on the Wall obtained the casting calls, and as usual, they are extremely vague. That's not stopping fans from speculating all over the place about potential characters. It's a little harder to theorize, now, since the show has moved beyond the books, but there are still some major characters that could be introduced.

The show is calling for a general, city guard, and priest, all of whom use the "RP," or Received Pronunciation accent (also known as the Queen's English). It's a posh accent used heavily in King's Landing, indicating the capital city will see a lot of action. Or perhaps these will be characters in Oldtown, where Sam is currently studying to be a maester.

The notice for a warrior in the 35-45 age range with a neutral accent notes that this would be "an excellent part for a top-end actor." Fans are clamoring for this to turn out to be Howland Reed — Meera and Jojen's father, good friend to Ned Stark, and the only other surviving fighter at the Tower of Joy.

And of particular interest is a tall, handsome, young lord in his 20s who uses the RP accent. The wild speculation is that this could be Rhaegar Targaryen, the heir who supposedly kidnapped Lyanna Stark and set in motion Robert Baratheon's rebellion. Season 6 finally confirmed the long-held theory of R+L=J (that Jon Snow's parents are Rhaegar and Lyanna) in one of Bran Stark's visions. Many fans are hoping for a flashback/vision to the fateful Tourney at Harrenhal where Rhaegar and Lyanna met.
