Anne Hathaway May Join Rebel Wilson in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' Remake 'Nasty Women'

2016 Toronto International Film Festival - 'Colossal' PremiereRebel Wilson's upcoming remake of '80s comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is getting a new name, and may have found its new costar: Anne Hathaway is reportedly in talks to join the feature.

According to Deadline, Hathaway is currently circling the project, which would team her with Wilson in the roles originally played by Steve Martin and Michael Caine in the 1988 flick. The gender-bending swap will also reportedly affect the film's plot, with the duo -- one described as high class, one as low class -- now focused on scamming a tech prodigy out of his fortune, rather than swindling a wealthy heiress.

And Hathaway's potential casting isn't the only big news for the film: It's also being retitled, from "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" to "Nasty Women." The name is a riff on the phrase that was popularized during the 2016 election, when Donald Trump infamously referred to opponent Hillary Clinton as "a nasty woman" during one of the presidential debates. The term was later adopted by supporters of Clinton as a sort of badge of honor.

It's unclear just when producers are planning to get started on "Nasty Women," and both Hathaway and Wilson are currently tied up with other projects: Hathaway is shooting the star-studded spinoff "Ocean's Eight," while Wilson is in the midst of production on "Pitch Perfect 3." Hopefully this flick will come together once those films are completed. Stay tuned.
