Twitter Claps Back at Scott Baio After His Comments on Erin Moran's Death

Republican National Convention: Day OneInsinuating that a former co-star is to blame for their own death isn't such a good way to win over the Twitterverse.

Scott Baio proved just that on Monday, after he addressed the death of Erin Moran, his former "Happy Days" and "Joanie Loves Chachi" co-star, during WABC's "The Bernie and Sid Show." He had previously tweeted his "sincere condolences," but then outraged many with additional comments the following day. Baio told the radio hosts he was "not completely shocked" that Moran died at 56 and suggested drugs and alcohol played a part.

"For me, you do drugs or drink, you're gonna die," Baio said on the radio show, according to Deadline. "I'm sorry if that's cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive and you gotta take care of yourself."

Many people certainly did think that was "cold" -- especially after a coroner's report revealed that her cause of death was related to Stage IV cancer and no narcotics were found in her home. Their displeasure showed itself on -- where else? -- Twitter. Baio found himself the target of some serious animosity, as seen below.

In spite of all the outrage, Baio seemed more or less unfazed. When asked if he regretted his comments after learning the cause of her death, he opted not to apologize and emphasized that he'd said "If."

In any case, this isn't a happy day for Moran's loved ones and fans, so at least Baio and his critics can agree that condolences are in order.
