Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) will be all about the New Hampshire state motto in "The Walking Dead" Season 8: Live Free or Die.
Showrunner Scott M. Gimple told TVLine Rick is not only willing to die himself to free the various communities from the tyranny of Negan and the Saviors, he's willing to see his loved ones die, too. (Since he never seems to know where Judith is at any given moment, she might not be a huge loss to him.)
Gimple told TVLine that Rick "will suffer any loss, even his own self, to give his people and other people the life that they should live, where the world belongs to all of them and not just one person. A real life. That's the only choice. So he's willing to face the losses."
Rick and Michonne talked about this a bit in Season 7, in their day-at-the-fair episode. That was the calm before the storm. They knew many of their own friends would be dying in All Out War, and they may even lose each other. In the Season 7 finale, Rick was even willing to see his son Carl die because he was just that done kneeling to Negan. (Rick would make a great wildling/Free Folk on "Game of Thrones" at this point. We do not kneel!)
The Season 8 premiere, arriving in October, will be the big 100th episode of the series. Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl, revealed the actors now have the first script for filming, and apparently it's a "good" one.
