And that tip was, "Don't go into showbiz!" We'll be here all week. Be sure to try the veal!
Actually, that would have been the tip if Alec Baldwin had been hosting, but luckily for Edgar Martirosyan, Ellen DeGeneres is a little more de-generous. Besides giving him the sort of pizza delivery story that would only make it into the pages of Playboy and its ilk, DeGeneres had the owner of West Hollywood's Big Mama's and Papa's Pizzeria on her show to give him a cool thousand bucks as thanks.
Martirosyan's Sunday night seemed like just another night in Hollywood when he was asked to deliver a whole whack of pizzas. But when he arrived with 20 pizzas, he got dragged onstage at the Oscars and made to help Ellen dole out slices to A-listers in the audience.
Oscar producer Craig Zadan told The Hollywood Reporter, "When Ellen said she wanted to do it, we said we'd hire an actor, but she said, 'No, no, no. You're not hiring an actor. I want a real pizza delivery person,' ... We said that the FBI would have to do a background check. She said, 'I don't care. I want it to be real. I want this guy to walk in and not know he's going to the Academy Awards.'"
That's exactly what happened, and although Zadan and co-producer Neil Meron were concerned that the attendees would be feeling too fancy to scarf down pizza, boy were they wrong. Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jared Leto, and Brad Pitt were a few of the folks seen snagging some mid-show snacks.
