'Sherlock' Season 4 Sets Premiere Date

Sherlock221B Baker Street will soon be open for business again.

"Sherlock" season 4 has set its premiere date: Jan. 1. 2017. The first episode, "The Six Thatchers," will air on the same day in the U.S. and the U.K., on PBS and BBC One respectively.

Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return as the genius sleuth Sherlock and his friend and crime-solving partner, John Watson. Cumberbatch has previously hinted that season 4 might be the mystery drama's last.

"It feels like the end of an era, to be honest," the actor continued. "It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately."

As usual, not much is known about the season, other than the return appearance of Moriarty (Andrew Scott) and the addition of a new villain played by Toby Jones. The episode titles have provided a few clues, though; the premiere could be based on the Arthur Conan Doyle story "Six Napoleons" about someone breaking busts of the French general. The busts of Napoleon could be replaced by busts of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
