Here's the 'Green Inferno' Trailer You've Been Waiting For (EXCLUSIVE)

2014 seems to be an embarrassment of riches when it comes to modest genre movies. And it's not just horror movies, either. Everything from Denis Villeneuve's mind-bending "Enemy" to next month's terrific slice of Southern fried revenge "Cold in July" have delighted, surprised, and made us think, at least momentarily, that we're living in some kind of golden age of genre movie, where top quality product can be released over a variety of platforms, with the same intended, oftentimes shocking punch.



And if there is one master of shock, it is none other than Eli Roth, who gave us the "Hostel" movies and "Cabin Fever." He's been out of the filmmaking game for a while, mostly due to his commitments as an actor (he starred as the Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-nominated, spellcheck-proof "Inglourious Basterds"), but this year he's back in a big way. Not only did he produce Ti West's spooky cult thriller "The Sacrament" (out next month), but he's actually directed a movie of his own, too! That movie is"The Green Inferno" and we're thrilled to debut the exclusive trailer right here.



There isn't a whole lot of plot revealed in this atmospheric (almost unbearably so) trailer, but we do know that it's about a group of activists from New York who travel deep into the South American jungle to save a tribe from extinction. But they get more than they bargained for, when they realize that the tribe they're dealing with is rather, er, primordial. When the trailer knowingly teases that the movie is "from the twisted mind of Eli Roth," it feels like the marketing team's attempt to say, "Look, we warned you."



The movie was co-written, produced, and directed by Roth, who debuted the movie at last year's Toronto International Film Festival. And it must have made some kind of impression, since the sequel, directed by his "Aftershock" confederate Nicolas Lopez, has already been commissioned.



"The Green Inferno" opens September 5^th. Try to see it at one of those theaters, like the Alamo Drafthouse, where you can eat during the movie. That'd probably be best.
