'Enchanted' Sequel Eyes 'Hairspray' Director Adam Shankman

The long-awaited sequel to Disney's "Enchanted" may have found its directorial prince charming, with "Hairspray" helmer Adam Shankman reportedly in talks to take the gig.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shankman is currently negotiating with Disney to direct "Disenchanted," the follow-up to the 2007 musical that spoofed animated Disney princess classics like "Snow White," "Cinderella," and "Sleeping Beauty." Amy Adams starred in the original, and is expected to reprise her role as Giselle, a princess from an animated land who's suddenly transported to live action New York City, and thrust into an unfamiliar world where people don't break into song at a moment's notice.

A sequel has been in the works since 2010, with Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal") previously attached to direct, though the project has stalled in recent years. Hopefully with Shankman signing on, it can get back on track.

"Disenchanted" checks in with Giselle and her true love, Robert (Patrick Dempsey), about 10 years after the events of "Enchanted," and that title suggests that the first film's fairy-tale ending perhaps wasn't as perfect as we thought. According to THR, the film features "Giselle finding herself questioning her happily-ever-after life and accidentally triggering events that make everyone's lives turn upside down in both the real world and in the animated kingdom of Andalasia."

"Enchanted" also starred Susan Sarandon as an evil queen, James Marsden as Giselle's original prince, and Idina Menzel as Robert's fiancee, who winds up marrying the prince instead. It's unclear if some or all of them would return for the follow-up, though we'd hope they'd be along for the ride. Stay tuned.
