Here's part of Den of Geek's cover story with the cast, teasing more than one premiere kill from Negan:
If they hadn't added "the premiere" we'd think he meant in Season 7 at large, but they emphasized it. That doesn't mean he definitely kills another member of our group. He could kill one of his own, or a stranger. Sounds like not a walker, though, to say "person."Since his introduction, Negan has been a whirlwind of violence, and that's exactly how he'll be portrayed on the show. Morgan promises that a bloodthirsty Negan will get to swing Lucille more than once this season. In fact, the actor hints that Negan will begin his reign of terror in fine form. The villain will take more than one life in the premiere.
"Negan's not just going to kill one person in [the premiere]," Morgan says. "He's not afraid of bashing in skulls."
It's not a huge shock to hear about multiple deaths in the premiere, since there were spoilers suggesting the same, plus director Greg Nicotero recently said other things happen in the first episode that are even worse than the one Negan kill we already know about. AMC's recent sneak peek scene ended with Rick being dragged away by Negan, but we're not buying that he's about to be killed. He might lose a limb, though, or it could all be misdirect.
In the same Den of Geek interview, Jeffrey Dean Morgan confessed that he's worried about how much people will hate Negan after they see the full premiere episode:
"A lot more than the people are expecting"? At this point, we're expecting the sky to fall, so ... at the risk of jinxing everything ... how bad could it be?"It's a definite concern. I did some ADR yesterday for [episode one], and I saw a little bit of [the episode]. It's a lot. I'll be interested to see how the fans handle it. It's going to be a lot more than the people are expecting. You're about to see someone that you love just f*cking take it. It's violent. It's more than violent. It's gut-wrenching."
