During the recent Harry Potter Celebration at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, we got to spend some exclusive time with some of the stars of the franchise. And during a press conference, one thing became abundantly clear: Natalia Tena, who plays Nymphadora Tonks in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and both parts of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," is woke AF.
Tena, who also essayed memorable roles on "Game of Thrones" (she was wildling Osha) and the "Black Mirror" Christmas special, was outspoken during the special conference, repeatedly saying things that would make the outspoken J.K. Rowling very proud indeed.
When someone asked the assembled cast members if they had any advice for up-and-coming performers, Tena very matter-of-factly said, "Have a plan B." She then added: "And if you're a woman, have a plan B, C, the whole alphabet."
Later on during the conference Tena, after disclosing her passionate love of comic books (she's a big fan of Garth Ennis, particularly "Preacher" and "The Boys") and suggesting that her favorite emoji is an emoji we're not even sure exists (a wolf emoji?), someone else asked her what she would use magic for.
After thinking about it for a minute, she said she'd probably access the Wizarding World for, "A potion to stop sexism." For such a lighthearted event, aimed at celebrating a franchise epitomized by its fanciful escapism, it was Tena who fearlessly access the plight of modern society. She managed to make the topic accessible and impactful. Some would say it was downright magical.
