'Lady and the Tramp' Live-Action Remake Coming to Disney Streaming Service

Disney is wasting no time in setting up high-profile projects for its upcoming streaming service, and the latest is yet another remake of a beloved animated classic from its vault.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Lady and the Tramp" is the next Disney flick set for a CGI/live-action hybrid reboot, which will debut exclusively on the Mouse House's yet-to-be-named streaming service. Few details about the project are available right now, though it looks like the creative team is already firmly in place.

Director Charlie Bean ("The Lego Ninjago Movie") will helm the new film, while Andrew Bujalski will pen the screenplay. Producer Brigham Taylor, who also oversaw production on another Disney reboot property, "The Jungle Book," will once again take on that role for "Lady and the Tramp."

"Lady and the Tramp" joins several other exciting projects currently in the works for Disney's streaming service, including a live-action "Star Wars" series and yet another reboot of "The Muppet Show." The plan is for Disney to debut four to six new movies on the platform each year, in addition to original TV series, as well as offer content from its huge existing library of films and television programming. Projects from Disney subsidiaries including Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm will also be represented (and eventually pulled from Netflix).

The streaming service is currently slated to launch sometime in 2019.
