It's time for another coronation.
"The Crown" is aging its characters up, and the Netflix historical drama series has found a replacement for Matt Smith. Actor Tobias Menzies will take up the baton as Prince Philip, Variety reports. He'll star opposite Olivia Colman, who is taking over from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II.
The first two seasons of the show chronicled the early years of the queen's reign, including the beginning of her relationship with Prince Philip. We'll continue to follow the royals with the new stars. Menzies has signed on for Seasons 3 and 4, stepping in after Paul Bettany reportedly had to withdraw from consideration because of scheduling conflicts.
We don't know how much Menzies will make in the role, but we can safely say it will be less than what Colman gets. A controversy erupted when it recently came out that Smith received a higher salary than Foy. Many felt was unfair considering that the actress plays the central character and has received two SAG Awards and a Golden Globe, plus several other nominations for her work on the show. The studio behind the series, Left Bank Pictures, has since apologized to the actors and promised that in the future "no one gets paid more than the Queen."
"The Crown" Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2019.
