We don't know where in the world Carmen Sandiego is, but we do know who is playing her: Gina Rodriguez.
The "Jane the Virgin" star has nabbed the lead role in the upcoming live-action Netflix film, Deadline reports. The project doesn't have a writer yet, so plot details are scarce, but by signing on, the actress is now in the position of playing an iconic fictional criminal mastermind. The evasive character is the star of the Carmen Sandiego franchise, which includes educational games, books, and more.
Rodriguez seems like a logical choice as she was already set to voice the villainess in an upcoming animated series for Netflix, due out in 2019. In addition to starring in the film, Rodriguez will produce through her banner, I Can and I Will Productions. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's Caroline Fraser and Kevin Misher are also set to produce, while Misher Films' Andy Berman will executive produce.
So far, the live-action Carmen Sandiego movie does not have a release date, but we'll start brushing up on our history, geography, and other key topics now.
