Can you believe it's been a year?
On December 27, 2016, fans learned that Carrie Fisher had died. The accomplished writer and "Star Wars" icon had suffered a heart attack on December 23 during a flight from London to L.A. She was rushed to the hospital where she remained until her death. She was 60. The very next day, her mother -- screen icon Debbie Reynolds -- died at age 84, after suffering a stroke.
Fisher had already filmed her role as Princess/General Leia Organa in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which was just released on December 15. Watching Episode VIII gave fans some bittersweet, heartbreaking final moments with the legend.
On the anniversary of her death, fans -- and her on-screen twin, Mark Hamill -- paid tribute:
one year ago today we lost a princess.

That last one. So perfect. Mark Hamill may regret what he said about Luke Skywalker's storyline in "The Last Jedi," but he said just the right thing to honor Carrie. No one's ever really gone...#AlwaysWithUs #CarrieOnForever http://pic.twitter.com/zsfuKHRSub
