Pause the music, because "Mamma Mia!" fans have some grievances to air.
The "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" trailer dropped on Thursday, but the usual song and dance came with a dark element: the possible death of Donna, Meryl Streep's beloved character. That wasn't what fans had expected to see in the sequel, considering how lighthearted and fun the previous movie was. In fact, many people were downright outraged by the potential plot point, and they turned to Twitter as an outlet for their shock, disappointment, and hurt.
As you'll see below, there are fans who are seriously concerned about Donna. There are already calls for thoughts and prayers, even though the musical isn't due out in theaters for more than six months.
Taking Meryl Streep's fictional death in Mamma MIA 2 pretty hard, your thoughts & prayers are appreciated.

I am completely shocked, I did not expect this turn of action in the most anticipated movie of 2018, Donna's death (if it is true ..., though I hope I'm wrong about this statement 🙏) was the worst move among producers Mamma Mia 2. I'm disappointed! 😒😟 #merylstreep #MammaMia2 https://t.co/Sfwn3SffyI

Nope.
What was brilliant about the original Mamma Mia was that it had heart but no cry-worthy moments, it was all about the pure joy and escapism of the plot. @mammamiamovie has unfortunately ruined itself with ONE bad move - Donnas death. The film will be tainted in sadness. So upset!

We can all probably hold off on sending our thoughts and prayers. As fans pointed out, "Mamma Mia!" was full of joy, and we suspect they'll be able to bring more of it to the sequel. Amanda Seyfried has sung the upcoming movie's praises, calling it "better than the original." That bodes well, so let's relax for now.
"Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" opens in July 2018.
