'Jungle Book: Origins' Now Has a New Title & an Official Synopsis

ENTERTAINMENT-US-FILM-GOVERNORS AWARDS-ARRIVALSAndy Serkis directed this film -- long in the works -- which does not want to be confused with Disney's "The Jungle Book." Unless fans get so confused they decide to see this one thinking it's the sequel to Jon Favreau's 2016 blockbuster. Warner Bros. would probably be happy to take their money anyway!

According to Collider, the artist formerly known as "Jungle Book: Origins" will now be called "Mowgli." Simple. Easy to remember.

The official synopsis follows suit:

"The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins."

"Mowgli" will blend live-action and CGI, featuring an impressive voice cast:

Christian Bale plays cunning panther, Bagheera; Cate Blanchett is the sinister snake, Kaa; Benedict Cumberbatch plays fearsome tiger Shere Khan; Naomie Harris is Nisha, the female wolf who adopts baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; mo-cap master Andy Serkis himself will play beloved bear Baloo; Peter Mullan as the leader of the wolf pack, Akela; Jack Reynor is Mowgli's Brother Wolf; Eddie Marsan is Nisha's mate, Vihaan; and Tom Hollander is the scavenging hyena, Tabaqui. On the human side, Collider added, Matthew Rhys will play Lockwood; Freida Pinto is Messua; and young actor Rohan Chand will play the title boy Mowgli.

"Mowgli" is currently scheduled for release on October 19, 2018.
