Lauren Cohan Lands ABC Pilot, Fuels 'Walking Dead' Exit Speculation

Maggie Greene may be leaving Alexandria for good: "The Walking Dead" star Lauren Cohan just booked the leading role on the new ABC pilot "Whiskey Cavalier."

It's unclear right now what this news means for Cohan's future on the longrunning zom-dram, though The Hollywood Reporter says that Cohan has been actively looking for a new job while she negotiates with AMC over her season nine salary. According to the trade, Cohan's contract is up at the end of the current eighth season, and she does not have a new contract in place yet, making it likely that she could leave the show.

What's at stake is apparently a higher paycheck, which would make sense for the actress, who's been with the series since the beginning of season two. While previous reports suggested that Cohan had been seeking the same salary as fellow long-tenured actors Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, THR says that that is not a make-or-break stipulation -- rather, the actress and her reps are "frustrated by AMC's lowball offers." Different THR sources, however, insist that "AMC has made 'aggressive offers' to re-sign Cohan for season nine."

Whatever the truth may be, Cohan's role as Maggie will be the ultimate collateral should AMC fail to secure a deal. The success of her pilot, obviously, could also play a role, since if it doesn't make it to air, she may be inclined to sign on for more "Dead."

In the meantime, she's headlining "Whiskey Cavalier," described thusly by THR:

Whiskey Cavalier, starring Scandal's Scott Foley, is described as high-octane hourlong action dramedy that follows the adventures of tough but tender FBI super-agent Will Chase (codename: "Whiskey Cavalier") who, following an emotional breakup, is assigned to work with badass CIA operative Francesca "Frankie" Trowbridge (codename: "Fiery Tribune"). Together, they lead an inter-agency team of flawed, funny, heroic spies who periodically save the world (and each other) while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.

Foely stars as Whiskey, while Cohan will take on the role of Frankie, the quick, cunning and completely fearless CIA operative who finds herself tasked with taking out the same target FBI agent Will Chase (Foley) is assigned to protect. As they trade their quarry back and forth, the two of them get in each other's way, each other's secrets and each other's line of fire.

Stay tuned for more intel as it becomes available. "The Walking Dead" returns from its midseason hiatus on February 25.
