James Wan Announces 'Swamp Thing' Series for New 'DC Universe' SVOD Platform

James Wan is currently putting together the DC Extended Universe's "Aquaman" for release in theaters in November. But he's also busy producing on the side, including in his beloved horror niche.

Wan just teased his involvement in "Swamp Thing," which DC is developing for the new SVOD streaming service called DC Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the live-action drama has a script-to-series order. Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman will co-write the script and serve as showrunners, with James Wan as one of the executive producers.

Here are details on "Swamp Thing, via DC Comics:

"When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland—only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous—and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

DC Comics also just promoted its new DC Universe service, which is where "Swamp Thing" will stream.

DC Universe describes itself as "a first-of-its kind, immersive digital experience designed just for DC fans."

"Swamp Thing" is scheduled to premiere in 2019, and would be the fifth original series for the DC Universe, following "Titans," "Young Justice: Outsiders," "Harley Quinn," and "Metropolis."
