We'll have to wait until January to find out who's taking home trophies from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but the organization has already revealed one winner: Kristen Bell, who has been tapped as the first-ever host of the ceremony.
SAG made the announcement on Monday, tying in its decision to buck more than 20 years of a hostless format to the widespread change that Hollywood has seen in 2017, both in front of and behind the camera.
"We are delighted to have Kristen Bell as the first-ever host of the SAG Awards," said Kathy Connell, the executive producer of the telecast, in a statement. "This has been a year in which assumptions have been challenged, stereotypes have been shattered, and precedents have been broken. We decided to capture the cultural mood by casting aside one of our own traditions, and we're thrilled to have such a talented performer like Bell help us do so."
In her own statement, Bell said she was "honored" and "a little nervous" to be the first person to man the podium at the annual event, but added that she was "so glad that I'll be in the company of my fellow actors, many of whom I've worked with before, so I know they'll be warm and supportive." The actress also shared a cheeky a video announcement in which she appeared less than thrilled to be the first guinea pig person to emcee the proceedings, wondering if it would be similar to Anne Hathaway and James Franco's infamously disastrous Oscars gig.
