Quentin Tarantino's Manson Movie Gets Release Date Timed to 50th Anniversary of Murders

Sundance NEXT FEST Opening Night Honoring Quentin Tarantino - ArrivalsAugust 9, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of actress Sharon Tate's murder at the behest of Charles Manson . It's also the release date for Quentin Tarantino's next and ninth movie.

That's provocative timing, since the untitled film is reportedly set in 1969, against the backdrop of the Manson Family cult's killing spree. Very few plot details have emerged, but it supposedly focuses on a TV star and his stunt double who are trying to break onto the big screen.

No actors have signed to star in the film, though Tarantino is wooing previous collaborators Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, and hoping to get Margot Robbie to play Tate.

Sony won the fierce bidding war for the project after the takedown of Tarantino's longtime producer, Harvey Weinstein, over sexual harassment and rape allegations.

The so-called Manson Family murdered Tate (then eight-and-a-half months pregnant) and four others at the home the actress shared with director husband Roman Polanski. Manson and his followers were convicted and sent to prison. Manson died a couple of weeks ago while serving multiple life sentences.
