There is still work to be done on FX's "Mayans MC" pilot, but Kurt Sutter isn't worried.
Following reports that the "Sons of Anarchy" creator is no longer directing the show's spin-off and that the pilot is slated for reshoots and recasting, Sutter spoke out on Twitter. He let fans know these changes aren't anything out of the ordinary, pointing out that "Sons of Anarchy" went through the same process. Sutter also highlighted that the changes show "Fox/FX's commitment to series" and will give him and co-executive producer Elgin James a chance to "improve cast, script, and direction."
This was the process for SOA. Shows Fox/FX's commitment to series. Allows me and Elgin to improve cast, script, and direction! #MayansMC https://t.co/RDV39nIWfv

Sutter is stepping back as director of the pilot, ceding the role to Norberto Barba, who is also stepping in as one of the show's executive producers, as Deadline reports. He comes to the show having previously directed and executive produced "Grimm." Meanwhile, Sutter will be hard at work writing the series with James.
The spin-off will pick up after the events of the "Sons of Anarchy" series finale and center on EZ Reyes, a Mayans MC prospect. Production is expected to begin in late summer, and the second time will hopefully be the charm.
