Connie Britton Leaving 'Nashville': Report

NashvilleIs Rayna James singing her final encore?

Entertainment Weekly reports that "Nashville" star Connie Britton might be leaving the country music drama. The actress has signed on for only 10 of 22 episodes in the fifth season, which is set to debut on January 5 on its new network home of CMT. However, a source told EW that negotiations are ongoing and a deal could be struck for Britton to appear on more episodes.

"Nashville" was canceled by ABC last spring, but rescued by CMT and Hulu in a joint effort. Lionsgate, which produces the show, installed new showrunners, veterans Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick ("thirtysomething," "My So Called Life"). Almost all of the cast members are slated to return, including co-star Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes.

Despite the show's possible (and eventual) cancellation by ABC, season 4 ended on a cliffhanger, with Juliette's plane missing. We're presuming that she'll sing another day. We can only hope for the same with Rayna (and her hair!).
