New 'Men in Black' Spinoff Gets Same Release Date as 'John Wick 3'

The "Men in Black" are returning, but they're going to look very different.

Will Smith (Agent J) and Tommy Lee Jones (Agent K) -- who starred in three MIB movies -- are not expected to return for Sony's upcoming spinoff. However, Deadline reports that the untitled film will be set in the same world and build on it.

The writers of "Iron Man," Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, penned a script, and the search is on for a director. Sony has already assigned the "Men in Black" spinoff a release date: May 17, 2019. As fans have noted, that would currently pit it against "John Wick: Chapter 3."

Producer Walter F. Parkes told Deadline, "It's so rare to get to the end of the script and know you're holding a movie in your hands, but Art and Matt have written a spinoff that somehow is true to the core of the MiB world and yet expands the franchise to a fresh new place."

The spinoff is being executive produced by Steven Spielberg ... but he also executive produced the not-exactly-blockbuster "Transformers: The Last Knight," which was also written by "Art and Matt."

Fans aren't sold on this spinoff yet:

Does This 'The Punisher' Motion Poster (Finally) Reveal the Premiere Date?

Marvel's The PunisherNetflix, haven't "The Punisher" fans been punished enough?

The first trailer for Frank Castle's (Jon Bernthal) solo series has nearly 7 million views, with fans loving the combination of Bernthal, blood, badass action, and Metallica. But we're still waiting for that release date.

The official "The Punisher" account further teased fans to "read between the lines" of this new motion poster, and some fans think they did see some clues:

This guy thinks he solved it: But "The Punisher" had something to say about that:

October 20 is a Friday, and Netflix does love to drop new originals on Fridays.

Over at ComicBook.com, they have a theory on October 7, based on this image.

"[T]here is one moment in the motion poster where we can see the number "701" distinctly flashed across the screen; that could be a mirror flip of 107, or "10/7" meaning October 7th."

They're pushing 10/7 because Marvel TV is holding its "Punisher" panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 7th:

"While the panel will only run from 5:15 - 6:15pm, there's speculation that Marvel TV will hold a surprise screening of The Puinsher's first episode immediately afterward - and then top that surprise by announcing to fans that they can go out and watch the entire series that very same night."

If they're correct, then "The Punisher" will arrive even sooner than fans expected.

'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Emotional Over Premiere's Major Amelia & Japril Twists

The two-hour "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 premiere was more jam-packed than the past two seasons combined, and fans are still recovering.

The biggest of many takeaways was the revelation that Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) has a big-ass brain tumor. That instantly explained so much of her behavior in and out of Grey Sloan. One of the other big headlines was April Kepner (Sara Drew) basically ending Japril. She decided her feelings after Montana were much stronger than Jackson Avery's (Jesse Williams) so instead of just feeling all of her feelings in the same house, she's moving out. It's a step backward for the couple, but maybe a step forward for April as a person. Is it a step forward for Jackson and Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) as a couple ... even though most fans don't want that?

Fans had strong feelings about all of that, especially the idea of Amelia having a brain tumor when her brother Derek Shepherd isn't alive to help remove it:

"Grey's Anatomy" co-showrunner Krista Vernoff wrote both opening night episodes, and talked to TVLine about what's to come. Here's part of her Q&A:

TVLINE: April and Jackson's last conversation felt like a real ending between them. Was it?
Krista Vernoff: Those two people are divorced. And we went through a tremendous amount of drama and pain with them in recent years. And what I love about what they played in the finale is that they were adults together. April has grown up. She has recognized that a dynamic is causing her pain... and that maybe it's not the smartest thing to keep living with your ex-husband when you still have feelings for him. And so, rather than accusing anyone of anything, she's making a very adult decision to take care of her own feelings.

TVLINE:Will she be rewarded for her maturity?
Vernoff: Yes. April is going on a complicated journey this season.

TVLINE: Speaking of Owen's wife... is it safe to assume that Amelia's brain tumor has been the cause of some of her more erratic behavior?
Vernoff: That is indeed safe to assume. And you can look forward to the [story delving into the] complexity of what it is to have a marriage in crisis and then find out there's this illness, and then potentially know that the illness caused the crisis. Does that allow you to come back from the crisis?

Over at Entertainment Weekly, Kevin McKidd talked about how Owen will handle Amelia's big news. She wants to keep it a secret, but -- thankfully -- it won't be drawn out for long. However, the idea that Amelia could've had that tumor for many years, maybe even back to her "Private Practice" days, will put Omelia's entire relationship in doubt.

"He doesn't know that the tumor exists," McKidd told EW. "It doesn't take too long for him to find out, and he steps up as a husband should. Even if Amelia said certain things to him, and even if he's obviously very conflicted and very much looking at the possibility that this marriage might not work, and they're on different pages, he definitely steps up in the role as he should do.

She hasn't known for many, many years, and this tumor has been growing for a long, long, long time and has been affecting all her choices and all of her actions and nobody knew it, least of all her. So it's a tough one for Owen because he's left with dealing with this person who, going forward, if they manage to remove the tumor, could potentially have a very different personality to the one that he married. She has a lot of questions about, 'Who actually will I be when this thing is taken away from me?' So it's going to impact everything. [...]

When you realize you've been with somebody that isn't the same person you thought they were, at least in this situation there's a real justification for that, so I think it's going to make them wrestle with facts and really look at what their life has been for the last three to four years. It's going to be a tricky path for them."

And that's just the drama on two fronts. We also have Meredith/Riggs/Megan, Arizona dating DeLuca's hot sister, Jolex getting back together, and poor Glasses getting screwed.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 if off to a great start, and it continues with Episode 3, "Go Big or Go Home," airing Thursday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

'Riverdale' Season 2 Now Casting Betty's Secret Brother, Chic Cooper

Does this ruin your theory about Betty's brother, "Riverdale" fans?

Season 1 ended with the shocker from Betty Cooper's (Lili Reinhart) mother Alice (Mรคdchen Amick) that she got pregnant when she was in high school, and gave her son up for adoption. So Betty has a secret brother out there. According to TVLine, we'll meet her brother -- named Chic Cooper -- midway through Season 2, which starts Wednesday, Oct. 11.

TVLine says they The CW is now casting the role of Chic, who will be a recurring guest star.

There is a Chic Cooper in the Archie Comics:

"Chic Cooper is Betty's elder brother and is probably the eldest of the Cooper children. He has strawberry blonde hair and is a prankster. Betty's cat Caramel is shown to like him a lot. He is a secret agent for the government."

Secret agent for the government? Maybe they'll keep that nugget for the TV show.

But if Chic is an entirely new character, there goes the Reddit-based theory that Joaquin is Betty's brother. Actor Rob Raco even teased that theory on Twitter...

... but apparently a tease is all it was? There's probably more going on than we can guess. Fans will have to wait and see how the Chic mystery is solved in Season 2.

"Riverdale" Season 2 starts with "Chapter Fourteen: A Kill Before Dying" on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. on The CW.

'The X-Files' Boss: 'Shippers Were Heard' & Should Be Happy With Season 11

Mulder and Scully shippers "have something to look forward to" in "The X-Files" Season 11, boss Chris Carter promises.

Season 10 brought Fox (David Duchovny) and Dana (Gillian Anderson) back together professionally, but fans were hoping for more, and it sounds like they're going to get it in the 2018 season. Series creator Chris Carter talked to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season, and shared two first-look photos.

In terms of Mulder/Scully feedback from the limited last season, Carter told EW, "shippers were heard."

Well, good. "Shipper" is often seen as a derogatory term for fans obsessed with character relationships, but if we're talking about "X-Files" viewers who want Mulder and Scully together as a couple, that's the majority of the loyal fandom.

Still on the personal front, EW said Mulder and Scully are "in for an intense journey." Scully's decision to give up son William for adoption 15 years ago still hangs over both biological parents. "William has been an absent center," Carter said, "He will come to the fore."

Carter also teased something of a role reversal for Mulder and Scully from where we left them, with immune Scully trying to cure Mulder from an alien virus. The first official photo from Season 11 shows Scully in the hospital, with Mulder by her bedside.

THE X-FILESPictured: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson"Obviously something unexpected has happened," Carter teased, adding, "Everything is by design."

Back in August, TVLine posted some scoop on Season 11, hinting to tough times for Scully:

"Hearing buzz that Scully won't be in the best of shape when 'The X-Files' picks up. Also, much like the last revival, rumor has it Season 11 will be bookended by heavy (and hopefully less contrived/cheesy) mythology episodes written and directed by series creator Chris Carter."

Read more about mythology and conspiracy episodes in Carter's new talk with EW. Here's the second very intriguing new photo:THE X-FILESMy Struggle IIIPictured second from R Jeremy Schuetze

"The X-Files" Season 11 has 10 episodes and they will arrive on Fox in early 2018.

'American Idol' Confirms Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan as Judges

Lionel Richie Performs At Rogers ArenaLionel Richie and Luke Bryan are heading to ABC's "American Idol" reboot as judges.

The two singers were rumored to be in the mix over the summer, but now it's official that they'll join Katy Perry on the judges panel. Country singer Bryan tweeted out the confirmation about ABC's announcement.

"I'm excited at the chance to help some deserving artists reach their dreams," said Bryan. "To be in a position in my career to help facilitate this along with the other judges is just a complete honor. It's gonna be a blast!"

Richie said, "I am very excited to be joining Katy, Luke and Ryan on 'American Idol.' As a singer, songwriter and producer, I feel I can bring a great deal of experience to the table. It's going to be so much fun!"

The trio, with returning host Ryan Seacrest, will appear together for the first time on "Good Morning America" on Oct. 4.

Auditions began in August, for a March premiere (ABC will use the Oscars to promote it heavily). The show is rumored to air on Sundays and Mondays.

DC Focusing More on Standalone Movies, Less on Extended Universe

The DC Extended Universe is extending everywhere.

In a Vulture profile, DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson and chief creative officer Geoff Johns revealed that the company is deemphasizing its cinematic universe so that not all of its movies (distributed by Warner Bros.) will be connected.

This change comes on the heels of the critical and commercial success of "Wonder Woman." While the character played by Gal Gadot was introduced in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the movie was largely a standalone.

"Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn't make sense, but there's no insistence upon an overall story line or interconnectivity in that universe," Nelson said.

Johns added, "Some of the movies do connect the characters together, like 'Justice League.' But, like with 'Aquaman,' our goal is not to connect Aquaman to every movie."

DC Entertainment has been trying to keep up with Marvel's blockbuster production machine — and failing. While its movies have raked in billions of dollars, they don't make as much and don't get as good reviews as Marvel's.

In fact, the company is creating a side label (still unnamed) for standalones that are completely outside the universe. The first one would be a Joker movie written and directed by Todd Phillips ("The Hangover").

Sarah Jessica Parker Confirms 'Sex and the City 3' Movie Isn't Happening

Carrie, MIranda, Charlotte, and Samantha won't be putting on their Manolo's one last time.

Rumors had been flying that the stars of "Sex and the City" would reunite for a third movie, but Sarah Jessica Parker said it's not happening.

"It's over," Parker told Extra. "We're not doing it."

She added, "I'm disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It's not just disappointing that we don't get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie."

Then again, 2010's "Sex and the City 2" was a disappointment both critically and commercially.

There's been talk that Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha, torpedoed the project by making "outrageous demands." But she refuted that on Twitter:

Earlier this year, Cattrall told People that a third movie was unlikely.

"The hardest thing is, what would the story be? It's been seven, eight years since we wrapped the last movie. Can we get everybody together? We're all sort of scattered now. Are we still relevant?"

Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong’o Could Be the New 'Charlie's Angels'

23rd Annual ELLE Women In Hollywood Awards - Roaming InsideKristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o might be getting wings soon.

The actresses are being considered to star in the reboot of "Charlie's Angels" directed by Elizabeth Banks, according to Variety.

The hit ABC television show ran from 1976 to 1981, and was adapted into a movie in 2000 starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. It was a hit, but a follow-up "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" disappointed at the box office. A 2011 TV reboot was also a dud, canceled after just four episodes. Sony is hoping that the fourth time is the charm.

It's unclear if Stewart is even interested in the project. She's focused mostly on indies in the last few years and hasn't starred in a major studio movie since 2010's "Snow White and the Huntsman."

As for Nyong'o, she'll next be seen in Marvel's "Black Panther" and also reprises her voice role as Maz Kanata in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

'Flatliners' Remake Limps Into Theaters With 0 Positive Reviews

Flatliners"Flatliners," the remake of the 1990 thriller, wasn't screened for critics, which is usually a sure sign that a studio knows it has a dud on its hands.

The film, which stars Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev and Diego Luna as medical students who get their kicks by temporarily stopping their hearts, opened today with not one positive review. (Reviews are still filtering in as critics finally get a chance to see it.) Audiences weren't too keen on it either, giving it a 45% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cinemablend writes that the film "lacks a pulse" and is strictly "run of the mill."

Australian site FIlmInk calls it a "bland, flatly executed and joyless slog."

And Den of Geek UK, while apologizing for the obvious pun, writes, "it just lies there on the slab."

IGN's review is the most positive of the bunch, saying "It falls flat as a horror movie but the cast is good enough, and the sci-fi concepts are interesting enough, to keep it from crashing completely."

Per Deadline, "Flatliners" didn't hold previews last night for audiences either. The film, which had a $20 million budget is "only expected to gross in the mid-to-high single digits at 2,552 venues." It's apparently too early for the audience-generated CinemaScore.

Reviews Are in for 'Blade Runner 2049' and Critics Are Swooning

Blade Runner 2049The initial reactions to "Blade Runner 2049" were extremely positive and now that full reviews are in, they're almost all rapturous.

The sequel to the 1982 cult classic (which, as you recall, bombed on its initial release), currently has a 97% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 33 critics recommending it and only 1 saying "skip it."

"Blade Runner 2049" is directed by "Arrival"s Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, with Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard.

Here are some of the most glowing reviews, with some suggesting it's even (gasp!) better than the RIdley Scott original:

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: "Villeneuve's dazzling sequel is on its own march to screen legend."

Leah Greenblatt, EW: "'2049' reaches for, and finds, something remarkable: the elevation of mainstream moviemaking to high art."

Kyle Anderson, Nerdist: "'Blade Runner 2049' supersedes its predecessor in a number of ways, and is not only a brilliant sci-fi movie, but one of the best movies of the year."

Some of the "fresh" reviews aren't exactly wholehearted endorsements, however:

Bilge Ebiri (Village Voice) writes, "Careful, dutiful, and beautiful, 'Blade Runner 2049' cannot achieve the sublime slipperiness of Scott's masterpiece. Whether it even needs to is up to you."

David Edelsetein (New York/Vulture) says "you feel every [minute]" of the film's nearly 3-hour running time and concludes with a ho-hum, "I thought it was okay."

The one flat-out negative review (so far) is from Scott Mendelson (Forbes). He writes, "It looks great and boasts solid performances from an underused cast, but (like the original) it's a triumph of style over substance."

So get your tickets, but keep those sky-high expectations in line. If you can.

"Blade Runner 2049" opens October 6.

Whoa: Did Oprah Winfrey Just Say She's Running for President?

Oprah WinfreyA tweet by Oprah Winfrey is fueling speculation that she's going to run for president in 2020.

Responding to a New York Post column that she'd be the "best hope" for Democrats in the next election, Oprah tweeted "Thanks for your vote of confidence!"

Despite Winfrey's many denials over the years that she'd ever run for office, Twitter took that as a sign that yes, she is running.

The New York Post isn't the only outlet suggesting Winfrey throw her hat into the ring: Back in March, Politico ran an article called "The Serious Case for Oprah 2020."

That's the same month Winfrey admitted that Trump's election had her reconsidering the idea that someone with no political experience to speak of could run and win. In an appearance on "The David Rubenstein Show," she said, "'I thought, 'Oh gee. I don't have the experience. I don't know enough. And, now I'm thinking, 'Oh.'"

In the meantime, Oprah is still busy producing and acting. She plays Mrs. Which in the upcoming "A Wrinkle in Time" and received an Emmy nomination for producing the TV movie "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," in which she also starred.

'Coming to America' Sequel Lands Director and Writer

Coming to AmericaThe long-rumored "Coming to America" sequel is a step closer to happening: Deadline reports that Jonathan Levine ("50/50," "The Night Before") will direct.

"Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris will be reworking a script by Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who wrote the original 1988 film.

Eddie Murphy is expected to reprise his role of Prince Akeem, but, according to Deadline, "nothing's been finalized." No word on whether we can expect other original cast members, including Arsenio Hall, to return for the sequel.

John Landis, who also gave us such great '80s hits as "Trading Places" and "The Blues Brothers" directed the original film.

Lynda Carter Tells James Cameron to Stop 'Thuggish Jabs' at 'Wonder Woman'

Lynda CarterLynda Carter just told James Cameron to stop sounding off against "Wonder Woman." In a blistering Facebook post, the actress, who played the superhero on TV in the '70s, asked for him to drop his "ill-advised thuggish jabs" about the hit movie.

She also said, "perhaps you do not understand the character. I most certainly do. Like all women -- we are more than the sum of our parts... This movie was spot on. Gal Gadot was great. I know, Mr. Cameron--because I have embodied this character for more than 40 years. So -- STOP IT."

Cameron first dissed Gadot's Wonder Woman back in August, saying that the character was "an objectified icon" that represented "a step backwards." In a new interview this week, he repeated the claim, saying, "She's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that's not breaking ground."

Because you can't be gorgeous and strong? Director Patty Jenkins responded to his initial criticism, saying there is "no right and wrong kind of powerful woman."

Carter has been a big supporter of the film, including appearing at the movie's Hollywood premiere alongside Jenkins and Gadot.

Liked 'The Nice Guys'? Say Hello to 'The Nice Girls' TV Show

The Nice GuysWe're not getting a sequel to action comedy "The Nice Guys," but we are getting a TV series. Except without Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. And not set in the '70s.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has greenlit a female-led reboot called "The Nice Girls." Two as-yet-uncast women will play similar roles to the 2016 film, in which Gosling played a private eye and Crowe was a ruthless enforcer who became unlikely partners.

The TV series will have a contemporary setting, so don't expect any parties where Earth, Wind and Fire is playing.

Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") will write the script and executive produce along with Ken Kao and Joel Silver, who produced the film, THR reports. Rodney Ferrell, the head of Silver Pictures Television, will produce with 20th Century Fox Television and Lionsgate.

It doesn't sound like writer-director Shane Black, who helmed the film, will be directly involved in the reboot.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 14 Will Have a Dinner Party With 'Family Controversy'

It's almost time for another "Grey's Anatomy" dinner party from hell.

"Grey's" Season 14 started Thursday, Sept. 28 with back-to-back episodes. Later this season, Debbie Allen (Catherine Avery) told TV Guide that Catherine and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) will host a tense family dinner party.

"That dinner's going to heat up with family controversy, and differences of opinions about things. It's gonna be hot in the kitchen."

At least we know Richard will be coming home to his wife, after their estrangement over Eliza Minnick in Season 13. "Richard has finally brought his butt home, as he should have months ago," Allen said.

But it sounds like there's still some tension at home, and it will come to the surface at the family dinner party.

GREY'S ANATOMY - "When It Hurts So Bad" - Meredith takes a step forward with Will but quickly regrets it; Maggie senses a disconnection with Andrew; and Amelia reevaluates her relationship with Owen. Meanwhile, Catherine comes into town and really shakes things up with April and Jackson, on "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, MARCH 31 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Ron Batzdorff)JESSE WILLIAMS, JAMES PICKENS JR., DEBBIE ALLENYou have to imagine Catherine's son Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) will be there, and Richard's daughter Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary). It's possible "differences of opinion" emerge about Jackson and Maggie potentially dating, since the Season 13 finale left that door wide open. Will April Kepner (Sarah Drew) be there or stay home with baby Harriet?

"Grey's" is no stranger to heated dinner parties. Remember Season 12's "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" with Dr. Penelope Blake? Nothing will top that for awkwardness. Season 13 also had a dinner party in the emotional "Be Still, My Soul."

Season 14 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.

'Stranger Things' Just Adjusted Its End Game Beyond Four Seasons

The Duffer Brothers panicked Netflix when they announced that "Stranger Things" would probably end after Season 4. That was news to a lot of people directly affected by that intel, and they all made their feelings known to executive producer Shawn Levy.

"Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the Brothers made four seasons sound like an official end, and I was suddenly getting phone calls from our actors' agents," Levy told Entertainment Weekly. "The truth is we're definitely going four seasons and there's very much the possibility of a fifth. Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely."

Ross Duffer added that Season 2 has "a satisfying end but there's still danger out there. There's too much to deal with in one more season. If we're able to, there will be at least four, there could be more."

They don't want to stretch credibility, leaving fans wondering why the characters aren't just leaving Hawkins, Indiana. It's very possible fans will be asking that through Season 2, never mind Season 4, but it's good to know they have a plan for "at least four" seasons. Better to go in with a plan than just keep adding more seasons because someone (ahem, Netflix) is dangling money.

"Stranger Things" Season 2 starts streaming on Netflix on October 27.

Charlize Theron Joins 'The Orville' for Seth MacFarlane Reunion: See Her 'Pria' Photos

Premiere Of Universal Pictures And MRC's 'A Million Ways To Die In The West' - Red CarpetCharlize Theron is bringing her atomic blonde perfection to Seth MacFarlane's new dramedy "The Orville."

This marks a reunion for the pair, who starred together in his film "A Million Ways to Die in the West."

Entertainment Weekly posted photos of Theron's debut as Pria Lavesque, the captain of a mining ship. Captain Ed Mercer (MacFarlane) and crew save her from colliding with a comet and, of course, Ed ends up crushing on Pria. Meanwhile Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) becomes more suspicious of the mystery refugee.

A couple of the photos show Pria in rough shape, possibly getting those bruises before they first save her. In the other photos, she looks as sharp and sexy as, well, Charlize Theron.

Check out EW's photos of Theron with MacFarlane, Palicki, J Lee (Lieutenant John Lamarr), Scott Grimes (Lieutenant Gordon Malloy), and Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Claire Finn).

Love her costumes.

Theron's guest spot comes in Episode 5, called "Pria," airing October 5. Here's Fox's synopsis:

"The crew saves a stranded ship and its attractive Capt. Pria; Ed becomes smitten with Pria, but Kelly is suspicious; Gordon attempts to teach Isaac the art of pulling off a practical joke."

"The Orville" Season 1 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.

He's Back! Liam Neeson Says He's 'Unretired' From Action Movies

'Mark Felt The Man Who Brought Down The White House' New York PremiereIf you're an action movie, Liam Neeson will find you, and he will keeping starring in you, "until they bury me in the ground."

Neeson just recently made headlines for supposedly retiring as an action star. At the Toronto Film Festival, Neeson said he was done with the genre, after becoming an unlikely action hero with the "Taken" franchise, and working on more "serious" projects. He figured at sixty-f*cking-five" he was getting too old for it.

Well, he's still 65, but he no longer feels the same way. Variety asked him about his retirement, while on the red carpet premiere of his new film "Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House."

"It's not true, look at me!" Neeson told Variety, laughing about his retirement as an action star. "You're talking in the past tense. I'm going to be doing action movies until they bury me in the ground. I'm unretired."

Yas, king! He was probably just venting before, like when Daniel Craig said he'd rather slash his wrists than play James Bond again, and here he is playing James Bond again. Or maybe Neeson was worried that fans would mock him for trying to keep up with the Marvel crowd at 65. But fans were not happy at the idea of Neeson exiting stage left, so maybe that gave him the encouragement to keep going -- until he's buried in the ground.

His "Mark Felt" movie opens Friday.

'Riverdale' Star Lili Reinhart and Miss Piggy Are Now Feuding Over Cole Sprouse

Look out, Bettty, Miss Piggy is coming for Jughead.

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse play Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones on The CW's "Riverdale," with fans calling their 'ship Bughead. The stars are also reportedly dating in real life. But now Bughead may have to make room for, um ... Pighead? ... since Missy Piggy is in man-stealing mode.

Reinhart started this feud. Even though she's probably busy filming "Riverdale" Season 2, and handling her own relationship, she took some time out to tweet her thoughts on Miss Piggy's relationship with her The Muppets co-star Kermit:

Miss Piggy did not approve that message. She fired back by taking aim at Lili's on-and-off-screen romance:
Nice! Lili has yet to reply -- she may still be knocked out on the floor somewhere -- but Cole Sprouse did jump in:

"Please continue," he probably meant. You can just imagine the giant grin on his face as he tweeted that.

By the way, "Riverdale" Season 2 is starting up very soon. Episode 1, "Chapter Fourteen: A Kiss Before Dying," airs October 11 with this synopsis from The CW: "Archie struggles with the emotional aftermath of his father's shooting; Veronica learns her father has arrived in town earlier than expected; Pop Tate's story leaves Jughead and Betty questioning the gunman's motives."

Tom Hanks Is Back as David S. Pumpkins in Animated TV Special

david s. pumpkins, animated special, tom hanks, nbc, halloweenDavid S. Pumpkins is one of the weirder "Saturday Night Live" characters to go viral in recent years, and now, he's set to take the spotlight once more: NBC has just announced that it will air "The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special" next month.

The animated program will feature the voice of Tom Hanks, who'll reprise the titular role he originated in a sketch from the October 22, 2016 episode of "SNL." In the sketch, "Haunted Elevator," a group moves through a haunted house-style elevator ride, with spooky characters -- and then, inexplicably, the odd, not-so-scary David S. Pumpkins -- popping out on every floor.

The silly character, flanked by dancing skeletons played by "SNL" cast members Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan, was an instant sensation, and inspired NBC to give him another turn in the limelight.

"It's scary how quickly the original 'SNL' sketch caught on, and we're thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going," said George Cheeks, president of business operations and late night programming for NBC Entertainment and Universal Television, in a statement.

Here's the synopsis, per Variety:

Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows' Eve, the special centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way.

In addition to Hanks, "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage will also lend his voice to the special. Day and Moynihan will reprise their roles, and "SNL" writer Streeter Seidell (who co-created the sketch with Day and Moynihan) will also play a part.

"The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special" airs on NBC on October 28 at 11:30 p.m.

Michelle Williams in Talks for 'Venom' Lead Opposite Tom Hardy: Report

'Wonderstruck ' Photocall - The 70th Annual Cannes Film FestivalSony's upcoming "Venom" standalone flick may have found its female lead, with Michelle Williams reportedly in talks for the secretive role.

Variety has the scoop that Williams is currently negotiating to join the flick, which stars Tom Hardy as the titular villain from the "Spider-Man" universe. According to the trade, there's no concrete details yet on her character, though she's rumored to be playing "a district attorney and possibly Hardy's love interest."

Sony declined to comment on Variety's report, though the studio already has a connection to Williams, who stars in its upcoming release from director Ridley Scott, "All the Money in the World." While Williams tends to favor smaller, arthouse flicks that garner awards attention (she's a Golden Globe winner and four-time Oscar nominee, who's also expected to earn some buzz for "All the Money"), this "Venom" flick isn't expected to be typical superhero fare, either: Sony has already said that it would not be connected at all to the current "Spider-Man" (a.k.a. Marvel) cinematic universe.

So far, Riz Ahmed ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story") is the only other star officially attached to "Venom." Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") is directing the spinoff, which is set to begin production next month.

"Venom" is expected to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Pledges Fight for Universal Health Care

'Hocus Pocus' Is Getting a TV Remake, But the Original Cast Is MIA (For Now)

Fans of Disney's Halloween cult classic "Hocus Pocus" are in for either a trick or a treat, depending on their attachment to the original cast: The flick is set for a TV movie remake on the Disney Channel. But will Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy be back?

The answer to that question is still up in the air, but for the time being, it appears to be "no." Deadline reports that the new version is "a reimagining" of the 1993 film, which will be written by Scarlett Lacey ("The Royals"), and will have an all-new cast.

The original "Hocus Pocus" starred Midler, Parker, and Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches who are accidentally brought back to life in modern day Salem, Massachusetts. While all three actresses have been vocal in the past about their interest in returning for a potential sequel, Midler quashed fans' dreams back in 2015 by stating that she didn't think such a film would ever materialize.

According to Deadline, this new movie seems to be a completely new concept based on the original, though David Kirschner, a producer and co-writer of the story of the first film, will be back as an executive producer this time around. Original director Kenny Ortega will not be returning, sadly.

We'll have to wait and see what the story is before we give this remake our official stamp of approval, though if Disney bases it off of fans' ideas, we can probably get on board. Stay tuned. (And keep your fingers crossed that the flick finds a way to insert a cameo from the original Sistahs.)

How Johnny Carson Remains the King of Late Night 25 Years After He Retired

While Johnny Carson may have been the most popular late night talk show host of his era during his three-decade stint hosting "The Tonight Show," he also remains the definitive master of the genre today, 25 years after he left his desk without looking back.

And for generations of fans who fondly remember Carson's reign as the King of Late Night, it's been easier than ever to indulge in nostalgia for the host who's still considered the gold standard by the many who've followed him. Along with regular airings of classic episodes on Antenna TV, Carson aficionados have reveled in the DVD sets currently being released by Time Life.

This month sees the release two hefty new collections: "Johnny & Friends: The Complete Collection," a 10-disc set collection featuring episodes (complete with original commercials) highlighted by many of Carson's favorite recurring guests, including Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy, Don Rickles, and Bob Newhart; "The Vault Series, Vol. 1-6" features six discs filled with complete episodes from 30 years of shows, including landmark anniversary specials and classic guests like Dean Martin, Orson Welles, Paul McCartney, Muhammad Ali and dozens more.

The collections highlight Carson's particular command of what have become late night staples: the topical monologues (which were even more hilarious when his jokes landed with a thud and Carson quickly spun his bombs into gold); the banter with his sidekicks (where announcer Ed McMahon and bandleader Doc Severinson frequently scored with their own one-liners;, the comedy sketches (the precursor to the viral skits of today's late night shows); and the effervescent back and forth with guests, celebrity or otherwise (along with film and TV starsCarson welcomed everyone from authors to zookeepers).

"My favorite thing was Johnny when he's talking to civilians – the old 'Potato Chip Lady' or whatever it might be," Carson's "Tonight Show" successor Jay Leno told Moviefone, referencing a memorable bit from 1987 featuring Myrtle Hunt, a woman who collected potato chips she thought resembled celebrities. When she was distracted Carson tricked her into thinking he'd taken a bite out of one of her prized chips, then charmed her after she'd realized she'd been pranked. "And that was always his great gift. He could connect with just about everybody."

"Johnny was the best because he connected with ordinary Americans better than anybody else," added Leno. "The best example I could give, I remember, I think it was Dean Martin was on with Johnny. Johnny looked at Dean Martin's shoes, I think they were Ferragamos -– this was the mid-60s -– and Johnny said, 'What did those shoes cost?' And Dean said, '300 bucks.'

"And Johnny, even with his own line of clothes, he comes from that Midwestern [perspective], so he was like, 'Whoo!'" Leno laughed. "In the 60s, that was a lot of money for a pair of shoes – it is now! And Johnny was stunned by that. That's what connects with regular folks, and I think that's what he did so well."

Carson's nephew Jeff Sotzing began working as a gopher on "The Tonight Show" in 1978 and eventually rising to the role of producer, remaining through his uncle's retirement in 1992, and currently serves as the head of Carson Productions. Sotzig is the official keeper of the flame, diligently releasing the carefully curated Carson collections and licensing historic clips to films and television series while being careful not to oversaturate the market. And as Sotzing reveals to Moviefone, the sustained interest in the late night king ensures that fans will be hearing "Here's Johnny" for a long while to come.

Moviefone: I am, as always, excited to see new Carson material on the home video market. Tell me what got you excited about releasing this current material to the audience that is still there for Johnny.

Jeff Sotzing: Yeah, it just is so hard to believe that, we've been off the air for 25 years and there's still tremendous demand. This material that Time Life has released has not been released before. It's all new, full shows. And these are kind of the go-to guys, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Bob Hope, etc., and I just like the fact that it was able to capture the pace of that era, which is gone now, it's fun.

What's it been like to kind of see that interest sustained, and I'm sure in some cases spike up again over the 25 years since Johnny's "Tonight Show" tenure ended?

It's actually spiking up right now, which is so strange, because when we went off the air in 1992, Johnny and I both said, "Well, that's the end of that. That was a great run." And then we sold some VHS tapes a few years later. I said, "Wow, that's hard to believe." And then, we sold some DVDs.

Initially we said, "We've made enough DVD product or enough VHS product. We don't really need to do more. We don't want to overdo this." But the demand is there and the product continues to sell, and it just shows you that if you have a quality product, there's gonna be a market for a long time.

And as the years go by, the historic quality of the material starts to come in to sharper relief. Tell me about that aspect of what you do.

Well, I love the fact that the monologue is such a great combination of a humorous compilation of current events, so you want to find out about coffee prices or what's going on with politics, or anything, you just essentially go back and take a look.

There's a joke that Johnny did in like, 1972 about how he was in Beverly Hills and a bum stopped him and asked him for two dollars so he can get a cup of coffee –- and that's the joke, that a cup of coffee in Beverly Hills would actually cost two dollars. I think it's five dollars now. So it's funny to watch that stuff.

I'm sure that there were many secrets to Johnny's success, but what are some of the keys that you still see today – like, why it's so obvious to you that's why he's gold standard?

Well, because number one, he's really, really well-read, he's a great listener and he always felt that the most important thing was for the guest to be successful. So, if there was someone like Rodney Dangerfield or Robin Williams, who was just succeeding totally on their own, he just let them go. And if there was someone who was struggling, he would jump in and help out

He knew when to lay in and he knew when to lay out. He was, you know, the master of timing, for sure. And he's truly a funny guy.

As you spent time going through the archives, what are some of the discoveries or the revelations that, even though you were a part of the show, took on a new light?

The fact that it holds up so well. We have some full episodes running on Antenna TV and they span the whole era of the show between '72 and '92 and I was concerned that when we did that, people would say, "You know, I thought this show was really funny, and it's not that funny." But it is funny. It's really, really funny. It holds up. The timing is great, it's very simple, it's clean and it's relevant. It works today.

Do you think that Antenna TV deal has contributed to a resurgence in interest in Johnny right now?

Yeah, for sure, because my problem is I've been with this show for 40 years, 50 years. So in my mind everybody knows the show like I know the show, and they don't. But there's this incredible connection to the show.

I spoke with a gal who I met for the first time just a couple days ago. She's with a movie licensing and television firm and she said to me, "Oh, by the way, I have a Johnny Carson connection: My dad was the navigator at Air Force One in the 80s and he flew Ronald Reagan out here to his ranch and for some reason they were able to get them seats for the 'Tonight Show' and they were in the studio audience and Johnny acknowledged that they were in the studio audience and had them stand up on camera."

And I said, "Well, you know, if you search our archives, you can probably find that." Sure enough, she called me back 10 minutes later. They found the show, she played it for her mom and her sisters –- her dad has been gone for a while now, so it's just amazing. The connection –- I can't get away from it. It blows me away.

Is that also a big part of your business now? The different kind of docu-series getting in touch with you to license those kind of clips?

Yep. I mean, we're providing clips for the "The Deuce" on HBO, we're providing clips for a documentary on Gore Vidal...I get requests for footage, I don't want to say every day, but it probably averages out to one a day. I mean, sometimes it's like, four or five a day. Sometimes more -– it's just incredible and for the strangest things.

You've been very judicious about what you do with Johnny's image as far as licensing and merchandising. Tell me what the philosophy is now. Has there been an evolution, or do you still stick to a certain set of guiding principles, in as far as how you want to keep exposing Johnny and "The Tonight Show" in the future?

Well, I want to make sure that the quality and the brand is protected. So we only release material that we feel has strength and is entertaining, and we don't want to overdo it. I know that he would be very reluctant about releasing very much at all.

You know, he had a clothing and he a cologne line and restaurants, and by the time he was finished with doing 'The Tonight Show," he was done with that. So I was never involved with any merchandising of his name and likeness, and I think it's probably a good thing. It protects the brand and makes it strong, and people feel that when they buy this product that they're going to get quality stuff –- and they do.

And you've got a streaming series related to Johnny's experience coming up.

We're actually working with Paul Reiser on this show, "There's Johnny" –- and I'm an executive producer on that show, so I should tell you that up front! But it is a show that takes place in 1972 backstage at 'The Tonight Show," and it's not necessarily about "The Tonight Show," it's about a fictitious group of people working on 'The Tonight Show." So, that's gonna be available on Hulu soon and that's exciting.

What was fun about kind of doing that unseen side of a life that you lived yourself?

Well, I gotta tell you: the funny thing about it, Scott, was they recreated the entire set with all the cameras, all the backdrops, and we had body doubles who would stand in and then they'd do the scenes so we could actually put these body doubles in. We replaced Johnny and Doc, and we shot this scene where it was just kind of wide, generic shots.

I was talking to a boom operator about what he did and where he worked and I realized, he's not the boom operator. He is an actor playing a boom operator. There is no boom. It's all wireless and the camera's not here, it's back there. So I felt like I was right back in the studio again. It was very strange.

Why was Paul the right guy? I know he was a pretty regular guest of Johnny's in his standup days.

Paul Reiser came to me with this idea 10 years ago and I said, "I don't think so." Johnny had just passed away, and I had to see what it looked like. You know, I just was not comfortable again, merchandising or overexploiting him and the brand.

And Paul actually continued and convinced me that he would write a script and he did it with David Simon and it was just sensational. And at that point, I said, "Okay, let's see if we can sell this," and they did. So I'm very excited about that. They've done a great job.

Tell me your favorite memories of working on the show. What are the things when you think back to your time on "The Tonight Show" that always leap immediately to mind?

I started attending "Tonight Show" tapings in New York in the 60s when my uncle Dick was the director of the show. I lived in Philadelphia, and I would take a train, go to New York, watch Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin – I loved all these Motown stars – then sit in a booth because I was too young to sit in the audience.

Fast forward to 1978, I get a job as an intern on "The Tonight Show." Basically, I go for a receptionist and I end up as a producer. I turned that into a producing job and put together the final show, and was there with Bette Midler and Robin Williams.

And to go from that arc, to see that happen was just had to believe. To see the beginning of the show and then the very end of the show, the incredible effect that had on people was a surreal moment, for sure.

What did you love about watching Johnny in the moment, doing his job when the cameras weren't rolling -– and when they were rolling?

Just because he has such great timing and so incredibly fast and able to pick up on things that are going well. Rodney Dangerfield tells a story about sitting on the panel after doing a great standup and then doing his little bit at the panel and he said to Johnny, "You know Johnny, you and Ed, you guys have been working together, what? 25 years? No kids?"

And he got this huge, huge laugh and Johnny sat there and waited and waited and he looked at Rodney and said, "Well, it's not like we haven't tried." It's hysterically filthy, but it's still funny and Dangerfield said, "That's unscripted. That just came off the top of his head, and how do you top that?"

I mean, he's just amazing. I was so fortunate to be able to work with such an incredible talent for so long. And he became my friend, which is even more strange. But yeah, a terrific man.

And it's amazing that his personal politics were so hard to identify. In his monologues he managed to be so funny critiquing everybody on all sides of the aisle.

He would say, "Why alienate half the audience? Let's keep it straight down the middle."

He was terrific because if you go back and look at some of the material, it's pretty clever the stuff that he comes up with.

A show just licensed some Gary Hart material from us from the monologue and you know, just Johnny talking about, "Hey, if you're going to go on vacation and you're running for president, do you really think it's a good idea to get on boat named Monkey Business? Is that really a good idea?" I mean, it's just funny. It's great.

What was interesting about watching Johnny after the show was over and he clearly chose to lead a pretty private life after being in everybody's bedrooms for all those years? What was interesting about seeing him in retirement?

The fact that he could be much more relaxed –- that show just eats you alive. You spend every minute of the day thinking about how that show is going to be put together and what you're going to do, what you're going to ask and then when it's done, you think about what you're going to do tomorrow. The fact that he didn't have to do that, I think, was a great relief.

He also made a conscious decision to not go back. He was pitched, and we were pitched together, lots and lots and lots of ideas for television shows from various producers and individuals, and he would basically say at the end of these meetings to me, "I don't think we can do much better than we did on 'The Tonight Show' for 30 years, so I don't see any reason to go back and screw that up."

Because he let go, he was loose and he would invite staff members over for lunch, which never happened before. They'd come and hang out, and then he traveled and he had a beautiful yacht and he was very much more relaxed – but still funny as hell!

And every once in a while he couldn't resist slipping a joke to David Letterman.

Well, that was the great thing. He would just do like one or two a week, and then Letterman would send him an envelope of checks for $39 each. "Independent, freelance joke writer – 39 bucks." It's hysterical.

And I bet Johnny cashed them.

I don't know! They had a funny relationship together. I remember once I came into the office and it was June, I think, in California and there was a set of snow tires in the lobby. "What the--? Why is there a set of snow tires in here?" Johnny said, "I don't know. It's a Christmas gift from David Letterman."

Johnny didn't invent the late night talk show, but he certainly perfected it. He owned that corner of TV at the time, and we now see everybody trying to get into the act 25 years after he left. What does it mean to you to see that his legacy not only exists in the shows that he taped, but in the fact that everybody's still trying to capture some of that magic that Johnny created every night?

You see Jimmy Fallon the other night with Jennifer Hudson, I think it was, having a Tomahawk toss using a cutout similar to Johnny's Ed Ames bit in 1964. It's just crazy that they would do that. But the technology has changed now too, so there's much more that you can do with video and inserts, and you couldn't do that because we did the show basically live. We start at 5:30 and we're over at 7 and only went for an hour, 5:30 to 6:30 and you couldn't stop tape at all.

So, things were much more simple, and because of that, they had to be strong. So the fact that simple technology and a casual conversation holds up after all these years is a true testament to how good he was.

I've never seen a show where Johnny didn't look like he was having fun. Do you have a sense of why he loved what he did?

Well, he'd tell you that because when you're in front of the camera that you're in control. He liked being in control and he liked getting laughs.

I think the one thing he missed the most when he went off the air was not to be able to do the monologue. When you stand on that star and 500 people are screaming out your name and laughing at your jokes, that's pretty strong stuff.

That's pretty heavy stuff, and I know that he liked that. But he had his own small audience of people who would come to visit him and he entertained for them and made them laugh. It was terrific, just wonderful.
