Warner Bros. Denies 'Unsafe Conditions' On Set After 'Riverdale' Star's Accident

KJ ApaAfter "Riverdale" star K.J. Apa's car crash last week -- the actor, who plays Archie on the Netflix series, fell asleep at the wheel after a 14-hour day -- Warner Bros. has denied that it is overworking the show's cast.

According to Variety, several actors confronted producers about the fact that they are not provided with transportation to and from the set. In other words, if Apa had a driver, he could have fallen asleep safely in the back seat of a car, not behind the wheel.

The studio released a statement on Thursday, which stressed its dedication to the "safety of cast and crew" and that if any one feels "tired or unsafe after working the Studio will provide a taxi, a driver or a hotel room upon request." The statement also said that the policy is "communicated to all cast and crew, both in writing and verbally, at the beginning of production and is reiterated continuously throughout the duration of production."

A studio spokesperson told Variety, "First and foremost, we are extremely grateful that K.J. Apa was uninjured during his recent accident." They then went on to clarify the number of hours Apa worked, specifically that he is not working 14 hours every day (as he was on the day of the accident), but some days as little as 2.5 hours. Original reports were that Apa had worked a 16-hour day before crashing his car.

On Thursday, SAG-AFTRA issued their own statement, vowing to look into the matter. They called it "an extremely troubling situation" and said they'll be sending a team to Vancouver to investigate.

Fortunately, Apa is just fine. Costar Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones, shared a photo on Instagram Stories of Apa looking A-OK -- and wearing Jughead's hat.

Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica, also posted a photo to Instagram Stories showing Apa lying on the ground looking at his phone with the caption, "@kjapa u good?"

They are currently filming Season 2 of the Netflix series.
