The final season of "Game of Thrones" will be directed by veterans, including two Emmy winners.
Season 8 is comprised of six episodes. At least one will be overseen by Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for helming Season 6's iconic "Battle of the Bastards." He also directed the fantastic finale "The Wind of Winter," in which Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor and Daenerys sailed for Westeros.
David Nutter is also returning after taking off Season 7. He also won an Emmy for directing an episode, the Season 5 finale "Mother's Mercy." He was responsible for the game-changing Red Wedding episode "The Rains of Castamere," as well.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will reportedly take the reins on the highly-anticipated series finale. They directed Season 3's "Walk of Punishment" and Season 4's "Two Swords."
"Game of Thrones" directors usually pull double duty, overseeing two episodes in a season. It's unclear if Sapochnik, Nutter, and D&D will split Season 8 evenly.
Filming on the final season begins in October, with some sources saying it will last through next summer. HBO has yet to announced a potential return date for its fantasy drama, but it's highly possible it won't be back until 2019 (sob).
