Sources tell Us Weekly that the singer/actress will play the blonde-tressed fashion designer in season 3 of "American Crime Story," which tells the story of the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace. It's a "yeah, no duh" move, since Lady Gaga is a favorite of creator Ryan Murphy and has appeared in two seasons of "American Horror Story."
In fact, at Entertainment Weekly's recent PopFest, a panel moderator suggested the singer for the role, and a grinning Murphy replied "Ya think?"
Lady Gaga has long ties to Versace — she starred the fashion house's 2014 Spring ad campaign. She also paid tribute to her friendship with Donatella Versace in a song on her 2013 album "Artpop."
The Versace murder storyline is based on Maureen Orth's book, "Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History." Meanwhile, season 2 will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
