So she turned down safety and a regular paycheck for the surprise of what might be ahead in the next five years. It would've been refreshing to see a woman join the male dominated late-night hosting world, but more than anything it would've just been fun to see what Amy Schumer would do with the role. (Amy Poehler, too, though. And Chris Rock.)I was so honored to be asked and considered. With Comedy Central, I project so much 'You're my parents!' on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, 'We believe in you and trust that you can do this,' I thought, 'Oh my god, thank you!' And then I thought, 'Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years.' But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years-I love not knowing. And I've never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, 'I can't start now.'"
Then again, would you want to follow Jon Stewart and constantly be compared to the master? Trevor Noah knows he has big shoes to fill, and Amy is doing just fine with her own TV show and budding film career. Maybe she made the right call, but we're left to wonder what "The Daily Show" would look like if she had made a different call.
