Barbara Tarbuck, 'General Hospital' and 'American Horror Story' Actress, Dead at Age 74

The Tony Awards Celebrate Broadway In Hollywood - ArrivalsBarbara Tarbuck, a veteran television and stage actress and acting teacher, died Monday in her Los Angeles home at the age of 74.

Her daughter, movie producer Jennifer Lane Connolly, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter that Tarbuck passed away from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a neurodegenerative disease.

Tarbuck was perhaps best known as Lady Jane Jacks on the soap opera "General Hospital," and more recently for playing Mother Superior Claudia in "American Horror Story: Asylum," but she racked up dozens of credits in television and movies over a multi-decade career. She appeared in "Santa Barbara," "Falcon Crest," "Dallas," "The Golden Girls," "Glee," and "Mad Men." Movie roles included "Big Trouble," "Curly Sue," and "Walking Tall."

She also performed in regional theatre and taught at UCLA for years. Tarbuck is survived by her daughter, daughter, son-in-law Samuel Chawinga, and grandsons Cianan and Cuinn Chawinga.
